I was wondering which space bands attempt to meld punk into their music? A friend and were arguing over the Mars Volta EP and he said 'not many other bands attempt to meld punk and space rock"- so I ask.. which are the other bands? (Im not even sure Id call Mars Volta- space and punk- but thats besides the point)..

For some reason, all that comes to mind is the Beck song "Everyone's Out to Get You Motherfucker". :D

How 'bout Wolf Eyes?

There was an Anglo-Japanese band called ZILCH a few years back, (led by a flame-haired, elfin Japanese guitarist named Hine, pronounced Hee-Nay) who recorded a song called "Space Monkey Punks from Japan," featuring Steve Jones of the `Pistols on guitar. That count?

Filling out Zilch were Ray McVeigh, ex of the Professionals (Steve Jones' post-Pistols band with Paul Cook) and Paul Raven (erstwhile Killing Joke/Prong bassist). Hine pulled a Cobain, however, and killed himself. Despite the departure of Raven and the demise of Hine, I believe McVeigh still attempts to carry on with the Zilch name.

Labradford? Really?
I've never really thought of them as 'punk-ish'.

Michael Dieter, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

mindflayer...i don't really think see it, despite them ruling and having the best D&D reference name ever. at least until my band RUSTMONSTER puts an album out, heh.

chrome, farflung, simply saucer, f/i & vocokesh to a lesser extent. tough question. the alternative tv thing they did with that gong related band, and i'm drawing a complete blank on their name.

didn't bad religion do a prog/space rock album that they're totally ashamed of?
