i have been out of commission for these last few weeks, even missed both roll-outs this year. i think my life is getting back to normal.

anyways, back to this.

Bee OK, Friday, 3 February 2017 03:24 (eight years ago)

STACKED YEAR. Could've voted for many

The Past Is A Grotesque Animal by Of Montreal is a major omission. That belongs on a Top 40 of the entire decade list.

Paper Planes easily

kornrulez6969, Friday, 3 February 2017 03:49 (eight years ago)

i like all of these. i wish i voted for Atlas. voted A-Punk, because it's perfect and simple and short.

Coin-toss between "Paper Planes" and "All My Friends." Two of the decade's very best singles.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Friday, 3 February 2017 05:13 (eight years ago)

The multiple same-artist combos here says it all about this year. Late LCD hasn't aged well and a lot of this stuff was never good in the first place (Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, National, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Animal Collective, Los Campesinos). MGMT's lasting contribution appears to be the visual aesthetic from the album cover.

voted Justice but I missed Robyn, which would have been my pick.

skip, Friday, 3 February 2017 05:45 (eight years ago)

also shows how much rock music has atrophied seeing that many of these acts are still the highest profile indie rock bands around...

skip, Friday, 3 February 2017 05:48 (eight years ago)

It's kinda awesome how many people I know who say that UGK song is the #1 GOAT.

billstevejim, Friday, 3 February 2017 08:13 (eight years ago)

UGK/Outkast obv

Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix), Friday, 3 February 2017 08:49 (eight years ago)

Also this year is the worst. I had no idea that Live Earth happened.

billstevejim, Friday, 3 February 2017 08:57 (eight years ago)

Burial.

nxd, Friday, 3 February 2017 12:28 (eight years ago)

And I'd forgot about the fucking Ting Tings, jesus christ they were the absolute worst

ultros ultros-ghali, Friday, 3 February 2017 12:28 (eight years ago)

Fireworks is the one Animal collective song I still listen to and it's amazing, but International players' anthem...

voodoo chili, Friday, 3 February 2017 14:04 (eight years ago)

oh wow, great year

wound up going for "Someone Great", can't forget the first time I heard it and how incredibly hard it hit me. remember feeling like he was finally transcending his influences in that moment. "All My Friends" is excellent too of course

still love the Battles tune, there's nothing else like it

frogbs, Friday, 3 February 2017 14:16 (eight years ago)

For all the shit I give LCD Soundsystem, Someone Great probably is one of the better songs here (admittedly, a very poor crowd). Voted something...else though

I Am In Atlanta And Thug Is Young (imago), Friday, 3 February 2017 14:23 (eight years ago)

"You! Me! Dancing!" and "Int'l Player's Anthem" are the only right answers here.

okay not The Ting Tings but I do like that song

vintage year

flopson, Friday, 3 February 2017 15:18 (eight years ago)

I feel like if Bon Iver had stopped after "For Emma", he'd have a better shot at this, but these days people are more likely to associate him with autotune and weird unicode symbols in song titles.

Working night & day, I tried to stay awake... (Turrican), Friday, 3 February 2017 19:55 (eight years ago)

This year was actually much, much better for music than the options would have one believe.

Working night & day, I tried to stay awake... (Turrican), Friday, 3 February 2017 19:56 (eight years ago)

what a great year, only 4 or 5 bad songs on this list

I'm gonna go with Fake Empire

niels, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:16 (eight years ago)

this is Intl Player's Anthem and it ain't even close

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:18 (eight years ago)

i was at a bachelor party at a bar that had a Touchtunes jukebox and I put this on and like ten fuckin' people started going nuts....peopel that I wouldn't even think would love it

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:19 (eight years ago)

Int'l Player's Anthem (I Choose You) and With Every Heartbeat are two of my favourite singles of the decade. Really hard for me to pick between them.

kitchen person, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:39 (eight years ago)

i always thought it was mostly the song they sampled that made me like Intl Players but Project Pat used the same sample on a song and it was good but nowhere near as good.

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:58 (eight years ago)

Pimp C just kills that track

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:58 (eight years ago)

This is a great set of songs. Finally decieded to go with "Electric Feel" here.

the future is now, Saturday, 4 February 2017 19:23 (eight years ago)

I really wanted to vote for "1234" or "Paris" but counldn't pull the trigger.

the future is now, Sunday, 5 February 2017 00:02 (eight years ago)

International Players Anthem in a walk. This list is shit. LCD Soundsystem weren't that good.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 5 February 2017 02:38 (eight years ago)

The Past Is A Grotesque Animal by Of Montreal is a major omission. That belongs on a Top 40 of the entire decade list.

i agree, it was number 65 on the Acclaimed list.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 00:01 (eight years ago)

A large chunk of this year's critical consensus both then and now feels so hollow to me. I've posted plenty of times on ILM about how I thought this year was garbage, even though I'm pretty sure the feeling derived from the hype surrounding The National, LCD, Los Camp, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys & Bon Iver albums all at once.

At the time I didn't at all understand why anyone enjoyed "Atlas" but I've started to enjoy it a bit more in the past 4-5 years.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 00:58 (eight years ago)

"Someone Great" as I have dedicated that song to Bimbo and it almost makes me cry everytime I hear it these days.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 18:57 (eight years ago)

RIP Bimbo, still miss you!
