You're never too big for Adele >>>
I'm not really big on his other singles but this is exactly what I wanted from him.
― Matt DC, Friday, 3 February 2017 17:46 (eight years ago)
beat's cool, very event-y
not feeling the verses too much, but he's obv v talented

hmm it's growing on me, and I'm def rooting for stormzy
there's perhaps just a hint of swedish chef in the chorus delivery...

Apparently every single song in this album is currently in Spotify's UK top 50. Whether that includes the Crazy Titch Interlude I have no idea.

Love this dude and maybe 3/4 of the album but I don't really see the point of trying to break him in America, especially like this.

(Intro: Risse (sampled throughout)In your town to–In your town to–In your town to––night
Aha... and here's the original a cappella:
https://youtu.be/ZHLVZwWxo4chttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHLVZwWxo4c
From Risse's "House Train", a tune from the golden era of Chicago pet ownership.
So those are the sample's lyrics! All my guesses resembled "critics fail to transcribe hip hop".
This track's my favourite so far this year, I think.

the video is awesome.
― Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Friday, 3 May 2019 22:14 (six years ago)
So on UK radio, they edit out “Fuck Boris” but let him talk about giving someone a facial several times in the chorus. It’s a funny old world

Stormzy's headline glastonbury set is pretty good, only small complaints are: wish he would tone down the god stuff a bit, the band is worse than the original beats, also rapping over Shape of You was very much not good, could he please never do that again.

The new single is basically gospel with rapping. He's really not that great of a singer but big him up for trying something different.
― paolo, Saturday, 29 June 2019 07:30 (six years ago)
only small complaints are:
also I realise it's churlish but dude you really don't need a union flag of any kind on your person

Album out Friday and it's looking like it'll be at least as good as GS&P going by what we've heard so far
― paolo, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 19:35 (five years ago)
How big is Stormzy outside the UK?
― paolo, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 19:36 (five years ago)
Well, he's doing a tour here in May, and playing the Fox Theatre in Oakland as his Bay Area show -- it can hold almost 3000, though it's far from sold out yet. In terms of general knowledge, no real idea, but that's definitely not a promo club level show. (Kinda reminds me of when I saw the Streets/Dizzee Rascal over a decade back in LA at the Wiltern, though that holds only about 2000.)
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 19:38 (five years ago)
He's doing Brooklyn Steel in NYC in june which is 1800 and likely will sell out. Seemed an underplay to me but maybe he'll add other shows.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 11 December 2019 20:03 (five years ago)
^^ Thought the same with Chicago's Metro, which only holds 1,100.
What a day to release an album, eh?
― ... (Eazy), Saturday, 14 December 2019 02:59 (five years ago)
This is fantastic. There's quite a lot of variety but it sounds more focused than GS&P. Even that goddamn Sheeran track has grown on me. Would have been nice to have some Spyro beats though.

ITV you lot can suck my dick for this https://t.co/Z5TybJtpbc— HEAVY IS THE HEAD (@stormzy) December 22, 2019
Stormz has been a bit vocal about politics recently, and surprisingly enough there's been something of a backlash. If I didn't know better I'd say that there's a lot of people in the UK media (and on social media) who have a real problem with young black people expressing their opinions
― paolo, Sunday, 22 December 2019 11:50 (five years ago)
They've fixed the headline and posted an update on Twitter. All those page hits must be tempting though.
― koogs, Sunday, 22 December 2019 15:05 (five years ago)
Boomers: where are all the politicised pop stars? The Dylan, the Lennon, the Strummer of today? In my time, musicians had something to say. Stormzy: Britain is racistBoomers: Shut up you uppity thug!Stick to rapping, no one wants to hear you speak on politics. 🤦🏿♂️— Kojo Koram (@KojoKoram) December 22, 2019
― glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 11:54 (five years ago)
missed this story when it broke yesterday so just googled stormzy itv and got the daily mail headline ‘Stormzy launches vile Twitter attack on the UK media over reports of him branding Britain racist’clicking on the headline now takes you to the slightly less inflammatory ‘ITV apologises to Stormzy after rapper accused broadcaster of 'spinning his words' in coverage of him saying 'definitely, 100%' when Italian newspaper asked him whether Britain is racist’i guess stormzy has solved racism in the uk, good work everyone

Is this a safe space to admit that the track with Burna Boy is a banger despite Sheeran involvement?
― Matt DC, Monday, 23 December 2019 13:15 (five years ago)
He’ll be on Fallon next week, according to his Instagram.
― ... (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 January 2020 18:38 (five years ago)
There's no time for that - he's too busy clashing with Wiley (if anyone's missed it). He's not mad, he's just disappointed

Better than the original, but then again I could have made an edit in Ableton without Sheeran's bit and that would have been better than the original as well

That new GQ piece with Gary Younge is as good as people are saying.
There was no single moment, person, book or event that shaped his world-view. He imbibed it less through his mother’s milk than her sweat. Stormzy is a child of crises. He was nine when the Iraq war started; 15 when the financial crash hit; 17 when austerity started; 18 when riots spread through Britain like a bushfire, with young people looting and confronting the police in several English towns. He could not avoid it. His intervention is authentic. This is not the story of a musician who is getting into politics but of politics coming out of a musician.

― paolo, Friday, 23 September 2022 08:04 (two years ago)
Like a whole miniseries in 9+ minutes.
I think of Stormzy more than anyone as someone put on pause by the pandemic, at least specifically in the U.S. He had a summer 2020 tour set here, was just starting to do Fallon and an hour-long Charlemagne interview when things shut down.
Anyway, love the new video, and this seems to put it into context for an outsider like me:
