I mean, where can I download Bardo Pond now?!

Kazaa Lite has never failed for me.

Are you kidding? Soulseek is, like, the greatest thing ever. EVER.

Manny Parsons, Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Soulseek takes forever to download, but has a decent selection. WinMX is faster but still slow, and not quite as good a selection. Kazaa has the best system but selection sucks. None of them are anywhere near Audiogalaxy (or Napster) on selection or ease of use.

Ben Williams, Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I've had speeds between 400-500 kbps with soulseek. It's totally based on who you are downloading from, there is nothing inherently slower about soulseek.

JoshD, Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

What makes it so incredibly slow is the fact that you have to select files from individual people, rather than just selecting the file you want and letting the system figure out where to get it from. So you wind up waiting forever for downloads to begin.

it's probably necessary for anti-riaa reasons to make it purely p2p

Soulseek = good for electronic, just got the Royksopp album, yes yes good, but like I sez, NO BARDO POND. (i.e. obscure not electronic)

Kazaa/Kazaa Lite = not-obsucre stuff, movies/TV and allmighty pr0n.

WinMX = only tried it once a long time ago, selection seemed piss weak, though I don't know about it now.

I really really really really miss Audiogalaxy, but I have found things on Soleseek I wouldn't have dreamt of finding on Audiogalaxy.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 7 November 2002 05:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Selection is only as good as the users. The more folks that use it, the more stuff there will be to gank ... um, share.

Soulseek, of the three, seems to be the easiest to use, and it's MUCH more reliable (for me) than stupid WinMX. And Kazaa Lite or Regular can SUCK IT. I've found many a wonderful thing via Souuuulseek, and (unlike shitass AG) it's easy to download ALBUMS (assuming the user you're D/Ling from has a nice, organized share folder) (assuming you give a poop about D/Ling albums).

I've snagged 46 complete albums off of Soulseek in the past 14 days, so, yeah. Sometimes I notice that it's taking up 220Mb of RAM but no biggie just restart it and you're golden.

and more importantly, no shitty spyware

Well, neither has Kazaa Lite or WinMX.

original bgm, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 7 November 2002 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't use the evil laugh for nothing! Soulseek is pure goodness.

original bgm, Thursday, 7 November 2002 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Keep searching, Leee. You will find it!
