Ok, so has anyone listened to this album yet? Any opinions?

it's not as bad as the last one but i really only need the first album and the singles compilation to be happy. he was less than interested when i saw him live too, boo.

I was in a Cinerama frenzy when I purchased it some 2-3 months ago, and sadly "Torino" was a bit of a cold shower that put a stop to my obsession... Not that it's bad, but it's just a bit réchauffé, if you see what I mean. Basically, a handful of good - but slightly unimaginative - tracks that qualify for singles like "Quick..." or "Starry", but the record as a whole is a bit boring, dejà-heard... The "Health and Efficiency" ep was great though! Which is why the LP is rather a let-down, disappointingly. As for Keith's "it's not as bad as the last one", I'm puzzled... "Disco Volante" = WOW!!! ; )

The big question is whether anyone will point out the amazingness of the "indie opinion" thread format being imported to ILM, of all places, before I can finish typing this. Not that it isn't an equally horrific concept in any other setting.

"Tom, delete the entire universe." (/jess)

(As to the actual question: I found Cinerama interesting for approximately half a record, and I'm still pretty disappointed.)

Musically, there are a few points where it sounds like it's gonna be great - just points, mind, not whole songs (in my indie opinion). However, as with any Gedge album, it all gets dragged down by his pathetic tone of self-pity, romantic bitterness, however you choose to characterize the dude's funk. By any chance have he and the poor guy from the Field Mice both been crying over the SAME WOMAN all these years? That would explain everything.

but gedge isn't always pining, often he's plotting and spitting and smirking.

Maybe it just seems that way. His pining is so oppressive, it's the only impression I come away with.

Fantastic record. I honestly think Gedge just gets better and better. John Peel is right, again. Nice to hear his noisy guitar back.

Easily the best Cinerama album by a long shot, and one of the better releases from 2002. The whole thing listens like a suite - with one song leading into the next and the theme picking up between songs as he changes his mind back and forth on situations. The I'm cheating on you and isn't it exciting > I'm cheating on you and it's horribly wrong > You're cheating on me and I want to hear all about it > You're cheating on me and I can't believe how cruel you are about it transition running throughout the album is really well done.

seven years pass...

the guitar sound on 'health and efficiency' is literally the best guitar sound

As a big Wedding Present fan, I steadfastly bought all new Cinerama releases as they came out. But they never got played much, something was missing. One day I finally admitted it was all subpar. Except this album, it is the only Cinerama I kept and Gedge's last consistently solid work in my view.
