Taking Sides on Aerosmith: Walk This Way or Sweet Emotion

Aerosmith, a rock and roll survivor and 70s hard rock legend, has left the music industry with as much mediocrity as they have greatness. While they have had their forgettable ballads such as "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "Cryin'" they have also played some songs with what I consider the ultimate in rock and roll riffs. "Dude Looks Like a Lady" has an awesome backbeat and "Living on the Edge" is a nice power rock song. Then there are the two songs which are the staple of almost every Aerosmith setlist: Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Each song carries such a killer grove that I think neither can be rivaled in rock and roll. When forced to pick, I personally like Sweet Emotion a little more. Maybe because I am so disapointed when it is over. Which do you think?

"Sweet Emotion" for the opening only. You should hear Radar & Z-Trip work it into their sets, as on the "Live At the Future Primitive" disc. Good stuff I think Ethan might appreciate ;).

z-trip used to always get plugs from jim mahfood in his comics, but i'm not sure if i'm down with what essentially sounds like a classic rock dj. seems only a few steps up from the bill and marty oldies show.

It's got to be "Sweet Emotion" as it's perfection. They are an amazing re-invention after the clean up.Dude looks like a Lady is also class.Tyler is just a great frontman and Perry well he's got the rock'n'rolls aga

Z-Trip is classic rock in the same way Afrika Baambatta is...you might give him a try.

only bambaataa plays kraftwerk and z-trip plays steppenwolf. and yes, i know bam's classic rock appreciation goes further than that, but still, STEPPENWOLF?

Is Billy Squier so much better than Steppenwolf ("The Big Beat")?

Well, maybe he is.

Jeez - and they said isn't anything vs loveless was a minor debate.

Both classic aero songs, but for me its gotta be walk this way - love that classic riff and excellent guitar solo. Plus, i feel i can relate to walk this way more than sweet e.

But sweet e. has its moments - an almost middle eastern bass hook from hamilton...and on the live version on little south of sanity, the instrumental at the end includes some amazing drumming, courtesy of mr kramer, which is reminiscent of led zep's whole lotta love, with bonham going crazy...both ture classics, but walk this way for me guys.

For the record, my answer is Sweet Emotion....but that's not why I'm here. My wife and I have to settle an argument,,,will someone please email me with their answer---please answer only if you are 99% sure you're correct.

What year did Aerosmith originally release "Walk This Way"? I mean the original, not the Run DMC version (which I happen to like better and already know it came out in '86) Please, if you know the answer; help me shut my wife up! Ha!

I'd pick "Sweet Emotion." But "Toys in the Attic" is my Aerosmith pick -- almost punk, that one was.

'Sweet Emotion' has a talking guitar in it, which disqualifies it, unfortunately - waste of a great riff! So it must be 'WTW'. Altho my real pick is 'Combination'

Listen to the Rolling Stones song "We Love You" from the mid-1960's and then listen to "Sweet Emotion". "Walk This Way" wins hands down although both are great.

Perfect song: verses from "Walk This Way", chorus from "Sweet Emotion".
