sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 8 November 2002 01:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyway, we should meet more often. Americans seem to be doing it like every weekend.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 8 November 2002 01:26 (twenty-three years ago)

sure, the americans that live in NY or san fran...the rest of us seem to be pretty scattered from what I've seen.

webcrack (music=crack), Friday, 8 November 2002 02:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i lived in toronto for the summer and i went to wavelength every week no matter who was playing. what else are you doing on a sunday night.

ps. the sick lipstick rule. their record is totally awesome and live they are more than fun.

ddd, Friday, 8 November 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Looks like no one else is up for seeing random bands on short notice. We should still do another meet before the winter break. I liked both Sneaky Dee's and C'est What.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 9 November 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm totally up for another FAP, work/life is hell etc. and I'm really hurting for some fun. Sean already suggested that record shop/beer thing which sounds good to me. I've never been inside Sneaky Dees so don't have an opinion on it either way, but C'est What was cool - (except for my inability to sit down or get up out of their chairs without destroying the place)...hmm I am definitely busy Nov.21 and Dec.7, other days are negotiable so far.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 9 November 2002 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

i'd be up for that. sneaky's is cheap as hell too, which is great what with the unemployment and all. once again, if you guys can settle on something, i'll come out.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 9 November 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, I'm really starting to run low on cash so a record store tour might not be the best thing for me but a dinner or drink is just fine.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 9 November 2002 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Oneida was awesome. The other bands had moments.

How's Nov 22 as a tentative date?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 11 November 2002 06:43 (twenty-three years ago)

new answers

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 15 November 2002 06:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang I didn't see this thread first time round.
I'm free Saturday evening, but Im all tied up from the night onwards.
We might want to go somewhere with sturdy tables, Kim's pretty destructive.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 15 November 2002 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll have to see how much $$ I have when I get back from Vegas (the 21st). I may just want to take it easy for a few days after that, because I'll be on the go pretty much full-time as of this Sunday.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Well you'll just have to roll some lucky 7's at the slots.
Or are you actually attending COMDEX, as in, like the showcases?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the 29th better? It may be best for me to wait till after my paycheque too.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:38 (twenty-three years ago)

29th might be better for me. 22nd is now defintely out as I have a friend with me from out of town + a goodbye party to attend.

Zac, I do well in McDonalds (the tables and chairs are bolted down see...) obv. more places should do this.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be at Comdex for the most part...I'll be too booked up to spend too much time gambling, thank god, because I'm no good at it. (Despite this I'm packing my Vega$ shirt, with silver stars and buttons in the shape of dice, because hey...you never know. Amazing what you can find at Zellers these days!) Maybe I'll go see Hoover Dam on the last day we're there, if I don't have any unfinished business on the show floor. Oh, if all works out well I may be on Canada AM on Thursday morning to talk about what's happening there this year...will mean getting up at 4am Vegas time, probably...thankfully that'll be more like 7am to me...and I probably won't be sleeping much anyhow, thanks to all of the oxygen they pump into the hotels.

Anyhow, the 22nd may be okay, but yeah, the 29th may be better overall.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Kim, if you're worried about upsetting the furniture maybe we should do Sneak's and make sure we get a booth.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:49 (twenty-three years ago)

A WHOLE booth Sean? Whoah there... we're getting really optimistic about the turnout this time aren't we? heh.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 16 November 2002 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 16 November 2002 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Now what on earth did I just do there? Geez, see - just talking about me being klutzy made me lose control of my hands! Be afraid, be very afraid.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 16 November 2002 01:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, just a quickie interlude, anyone up for the Rheostatics matinee on Sunday? Its part of their 10 or 20 or 30 day stand at the Horseshoe. Its my second day as a resident of York so I'll be there if its not sold out.

But Saturday is the MEAN RED SPIDERS!!!!
Unless you have childlike fear of the shoegavers, come, come and be blown away.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 16 November 2002 07:16 (twenty-three years ago)

hope that they are better than when supported the mighty bardo pond.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 16 November 2002 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Nov 29, Sneaky Dee's, 8 pm?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 16 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ack, can we make it Nov 30 instead? I just noticed that there's a York Improv Soiree on the 29th.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 16 November 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Either would be fine for me, I think.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 16 November 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the 30th should still be ok for me too Sundar.

Hey Zac - how did the move go? That's a big maybe on the Rheos since I've got some kind of cold that's threatening to get worse if I don't take it sort of easy. But I'd like to go and the cold just might get better - drop me an email late tonight / tomorrow early if you want. I should know by then.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I've actually gone and bought tix for the Rheos next Saturday night instead - none of this all ages, no beer nonsense - I might've had to kill someone. Plus all that snow out there today scared me into staying indoors.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 17 November 2002 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, so that means you can't make the FAP if it's that night, right? Is the Sunday any good?

Lungbutter was fantastic at Wavelength tonight. I haven't ever liked math rock that much. They had these atonal breakdowns and sax solos and stuff.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 18 November 2002 06:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh never mind I had the dates confused. Is Nov 30 at 8 at SD's final?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 18 November 2002 06:35 (twenty-three years ago)

The CD is very good as well despite the (understandable and expected) lo-fi recording. It's like taking math rock to this John Zorn/Fred Frith level.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 18 November 2002 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Sundar! Didn't mean to confuse - the 30th is still fine.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 18 November 2002 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The Rheos show was just bizarre. They had all their little kids there, about 25 5-10 year olds just running around and spinning each other to the music. So they started with 6 songs or so from Harmolodia (Intro, Easy To Be With You, I Fab Thee, Music Room, Home Again and the finale I think) into wonderful versions of Aliens and Stolen Car. It was odd, Bidini was right into it, joking with the children who occassionaly ran on stage to their respective fathers causing the occasional slip up and mother running on stage to retrieve or coax the child to the side. Saturday should be a bit crowded. Im trying to make it to either then or Sunday (I can't remeber which day they end).
And they were selling HOCKEY JERSEYS. I thought that was too funny.
30th should be fine by me as well.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard about the hockey jerseys! 60 bux or something tho right? But I'd likely be lost in one anyway - ah well.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

60 big ones it is indeed. I would love to own, but Im struggling trying to justify 20 bucks on a tshirt. Sigh, I already own a small mountian of red hockey jerseys.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Shit! I want a Rheos hockey jersey!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Seriously? If you say yes on this thread before 6pm or so, I'll try to snag one. ?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

when i see you guys next week one of you beter be rocking that gear. but not all of you.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 23 November 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, god forbid we look like a bunch of nerds. I'm into geek chic tho so that's cool.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 November 2002 23:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Whoops, was away all day, but apparently someone else was going tonight (I'm still way too busy to spare the time after being away for nearly a week. Bah!) so I slid him $60 to pick one up for me! Yay!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 23 November 2002 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh ok, good. Welcome back by the way! I watched for you on tv, but no dice. Did I miss it?

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 November 2002 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Never happened...they originally wanted me on to talk about the show BEFORE IT EVEN STARTED. And then we crossed wires and it never happened, so oh well. Meant I got to sleep in (I'd have had to be there at 4am to make it live to the east coast, which I wasn't much looking forward to).

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 24 November 2002 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn. On thursday morning, they did have one guy throwing grapes that the other guy was trying to catch in his mouth. It was pretty riveting stuff. (translation - I think you owe me at least a half hour of my life back) ;)

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 November 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll buy you a beer at the FAP. How's that?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 24 November 2002 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

...excellent.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 November 2002 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

So I got the jersey...yay! Okay, I don't have it yet, but I received the message that it was purchased. Hopefully I'll have it on at the FAP. Kim, did you still want to try a short record store run beforehand, or should we just go straight to Sneaks?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 25 November 2002 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean, you really missed out. Aside from immediately wiping out in the basement and bruising up my knees (I forgot about the drop-off outside the washroom door) I had the best possible time. I think it was something like 3am when they stopped playing. Got to meet Mr. N's girlfriend too, who is extremely nice by the way, and just had a great time. But I've got such a hero-crush on Martin now that it's not even funny - one big grin from the guy and I'm still swooning. How sad am I? hehe. I even bought one of his art prints.

The record store thing - yeah I'm still up for that I think. Not sure how much money I have though. I'll email you tomorrow, k?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 25 November 2002 04:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Kim touched Martin, Kim touched Morrisey, Kim touched Martin!

I think the show finally ended about 3:30 after 3 encores, including an accoustic version of Record Body Count from the audience (and the touching incedent). Also Martin once again screwed up something from Harmalodia, or I think it was, I forget with all the songs, but Sunday it was I Fab Thee. Horse, California Dreamline, My First Rock Concert ("I knew if I hung out with Glass Tiger[?] long Enough I'd be partying with Wang Chung!" - Kevin Hearn), Jesus Was Once A Teenager Too and Shaved Head, PIN, all there protest songs (Bad Time To Be Poor, Schools and GDFTCYAP) lots of stuff from KevinHearnia ("In the magical land of Kevinhearnia, Kevin carries his own equipment") but I can't remeber what they ended with.
I really should get back to work and finish downing the wake up drinks.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh you actually did see that? heh. He's probably lucky I didn't knock him over - I think I was feeling more enthusuiastic than I've ever been before in my life.

I missed out on the shirts, (so I don't have the black armed one to bug you after all) but I did talk the merch people into giving me the last copy of that Centennial cd by telling them my little 'I can't believe I didn't know' sob story. My knee is totally turning green now by the way.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I may not forgive you for comparing me to one of those Morrissey kooks tho. That's pretty low. I mean, I didn't throw calla lillies wrapped in poetry at him or anything.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Well you were talking about touching Morrissey and then I say you have a moment with Martin. You just haven't forgiven me for finally letting rip and going to the front of the crowd. :( Kim HATES me!

All I can think about is the olde Touch Paul Bolini sketch from KITH.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Very disturbing! And yes of course, clearly I hate you (and your ever-present Jonny Cat T-shirt). That must be obvious to everyone by now.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 28 November 2002 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Noodles smells like kitty litter! Noodles smells like kitty litter!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 28 November 2002 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Just a general confirmation/reminder/call to see who's coming to Sneaky Dee's for 8 on Saturday.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 28 November 2002 07:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I MAY show my face, but first I must shower so I nar offend Sean and Kim's tender noses.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 28 November 2002 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm planning to be there. Is everyone else reading this thread or should we post another thread that has a more specific subject line, just to be sure?

MARK P! FRITZ! Weigh in! Mark, I still have to show you my Jukebox, so you'd BETTER BE THERE dammit.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 28 November 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

fifteen years pass...

http://phildellio.tripod.com/varsity.jpg

I think I might have dropped by Saturday night.
