if you've got osx you can try acquisition, a very nice gnutella client. it's sort of like napster was before it got really popular i.e. you can find the hits but everything else you kind of have to get lucky...

Graham, didn't you once say something about finding a way to get on Soulseek with OSX? Maybe I'm imagining it.

I'm missing Audiogalaxy so much now, what with everyone's year end roundups and all.

yeah you can configure the linux slsk client to work with osx

Yeah RIGHT. I have yet to find a way to get the full MP3s. It usually got stuck after half a minute. Ah well. Limewire is okay-ish, especially if you like Pop.

sadly it's on ox 9.2. bloody harvard computers! maybe i'll try limewire again, though it's always sucked for me in the past.

it takes a while to figure out the nuances of limewire, and alot of patience. i have a mac too and since napster went tits-up it's the best thing available.

I run Soulseek on Virtual PC and it works just fine.

Justin M (Justin M), Friday, 8 November 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

it isn't slow as hell?

dyson (dyson), Friday, 8 November 2002 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I use VPC, too. What's slow is the PC desktop, which is like torture when you have to rename files for OS9's 31 character limit. If I knew I'd be doing this for all these months, I'd have found a PC utility for batch-editing file names. And of course, once I move to OSX, it will be a moot issue. In fact, I'll curse OS9 for all the hacked up MP3 names that will be its legacy.

Soulseek itself can be slow for searching, and waiting in the queue, but I think that's true with all platforms. Actual download speed depends entirely on your bandwith of the uploader's, regardless of the machines.

your bandwith of the uploader's = your bandwith and the uploader's

I get albums from hotline, but the selection is sort of limited, but when you fine a good server you can get some good things.

I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but I normally use iSwipe which you can download from http://www.hillmanminx.com
