Surprised there's no mention of her I can find! I've seen her described as a Twigs rip off, and she certainly owes a lot to FKA's aesthetic, but the tunes are stronger imo. In terms of sound design, her debut may be my favourite of the year, just phenomenal. Her songwriting could be more varied - it's pretty emotionally one note at the moment, and culling a handful of the 16 tracks would surely have helped with this. Having said that, each one has worthwhile moments.

I think I made mention of her on the alternative R&B thread, which in hindsight probably wasn't the right place for her - the aesthetic is trip-hop revival more than anything. It's a beautiful album though a little knotty and impervious on first contact

three years pass...

I'm listening to her new album Shabrang which is one style coming in many forms. It's slow and atmospheric but varied.

There are moments that remind you of Portishead

I'm not always convinced by her use of autotune but I think she uses it to strengthen her oriental feel. I think we're relatively far than FKA Twigs too.

Oo, new album. I found her debut quite overwrought and overlong, but packed full of fascinating ideas and great production.

On first listen I much prefer this to Ison.

one year passes...

Latest EP Raving Dahlia is quite the change of direction towards electro-pop and features an electro-rock ballad (High Alone), at the risk of losing some of her edge, darkness, ambiguity, alienation. I liked her previous work / production better.
