It's unfortunate that this album is broadly treated like a practice run for Fiona's subsequent career. Every track is a banger and in almost every case they bang in a way that is different to their companions. I got this album almost immediately after it came out and loved it but at the time I also vaguely categorised some tracks as "genre exercises" (faintly derogatory). Now I consider those same tracks "genre exercises" (complimentary).

That sounds about right to me, though I’ve always assumed that I’m the problem when it comes to not rating idler higher.

i'm not the musician in my family, but if any of my kids opened their career with something like Tidal, it's a Meltzer 6 star. the fact pawn is even better!

I started following her with Pawn and finally came around to Tidal after the Idler Wheel had come out. I had assumed it would be juvenile which says a lot about what a dumbass I was at the time.
