"I Hate Everything About You" and "Cats In The Cradle," the two Ugly Kid Joe songs I remember, were just pure bullshit. As offensive as Puddle Of Mudd can be, I genuinely believe this guy is pissed. "She Hates Me" is genuinely frightening in ways that Ugly Kid Joe could never achieve, and its "la-la-la's" are funnier too! Also that twinkly sound at the end and beginning of "Blurry" gets me genuinely kinda sappy for some reason, and nothing on "Cats In The Cradle" had that effect. So don't take my vote for Puddle Of Mudd as fanship, but just an attempt to acknowledge that this band is actually getting at the something dark and peculiarly ominous as the singer's baseball cap, where Ugly Kid Joe were just a bunch of silly dorks.

I think Ugly Kid Joe are (were) way better that Puddle of Mudd. How can you think otherwise? First of all, Whitfield Crane, as I remember, was a very capable vocalist (he went on to replace Keith in Life on Agony for a bit). The band was pretty much shit, agreed, but with a goofiness / levity that made it easy to swallow. Puddle of Mudd are horrible, horrible, horrible - not a single redeeming thing about them. Only Creed and Nickelback are slightly worse.
