very good. started with a set of old stuff, then did all of Pleiades Dust (which sounded great) before ending w/ older stuff again. only played about 8 songs total due to the playing Pleiades in full, but p much touched every album I think.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 31 August 2017 03:41 (eight years ago)

I should try to catch them when I can.

On my trip down south I just saw Sharde and her Rising Stars blues fife and drum band at the annual Otha Turner Goat Picnic in Senobia, Mississippi (most of the bands at the free event were not that good). Anthony Sherrod and the Big As were good at hole in the wall Red's in Clarksdale, MS., Hill country inspired blues guitarist Lighting Malcolm and band at one of Clarksdale's few art galleries was good too.

In Memphis we saw Al Green sing and preach at his church; the band Impala do surf and 50s rock and jazz instrumentals elsewhere;

in Nashville at the Grand ol Opry we saw a bunch of acts including Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, and Wynonna. Plus a decent cover band called Nashville Skyine at Robert's Western Wear

curmudgeon, Thursday, 31 August 2017 16:36 (eight years ago)

aw man I saw Al Green in 2012, was fantastic.

Question: do y'all usually go to shows alone or with others? Because there's always a ton of concerts that I'd love to see but none of my friends are exactly music people (or they have different tastes) and the idea of going alone always sounds like such an awkward drag (even if i'd had great nights when i have done it)

josh az (2011nostalgia), Tuesday, 26 September 2017 03:48 (seven years ago)

almost always go alone. but that's because I tend to meet strangers at every show (I get very social when I drink) and because there are like 10-12 of us in Orlando who go to every show so I know I'm going to run into people I know.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 26 September 2017 03:50 (seven years ago)

My list is exactly 50/50. I have a few show-friends. It's harder for my partner to get out than it used to be but she made it to a couple. I've realized that I'm totally fine with seeing good music by myself.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Tuesday, 26 September 2017 03:58 (seven years ago)

Mostly go to shows alone, with exceptions. Doesn't really matter, meeting people is awesome and not meeting them is fine too, it's a win win as long as you love the music.

Week of Wonders (Ross), Tuesday, 26 September 2017 04:02 (seven years ago)

I have a tendency to hug strangers at shows when I'm drunk (don't worry, the hugging is mutual, but I'm so very distant to strangers when I'm sober it's just a humorous contrast to me)

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 26 September 2017 04:03 (seven years ago)

interesting topic.

i have seen hundreds of shows and i have always gone with someone else except for one. that show was Slowdive at a club called Sims in San Francisco. i personally didn't like going by myself hence why i have brought someone else before and afterwards. i am getting to the point where i'm missing shows i really, really want to see. so maybe i can get some inspiration?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 26 September 2017 05:16 (seven years ago)

that's the whole reason I started going alone. even when I made friends who had similar tastes, they often couldn't afford to go to as many shows as me (or couldn't go due to familial obligations), so I figured I'd never get to go to a show if I required someone else to join me.

I usually find it pretty exciting to walk out of a show with 1-2 new friends. doesn't always happen but it's sweet when it does. I think I probably made 5-6 friends last year at shows...two of whom I will see tomorrow at Mastodon!

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 26 September 2017 05:20 (seven years ago)

i'm not as social as i used to be in my say 20s. this does give me some food for thought thou.
