Make up your own band and see if they might already exist perhaps...

Me first:
Band Name: Primate
Description: Instigators of "Monkey Metal" - kind of death metal with slow bits and the singer mostly goes "oooh ooh AAAH! AAAH! ARRRRRRGH!" Their first album, "Kong" combines lumbering junglesque (not d'n'b) beats with full on blastcore primal rage. During live shows, the lead singer cavorts around the stage to cries of "Hail to the Chimp", screeching and howling like something out of Outbreak. Basically the sound of being attacked by a rabid baboon at high speed. With guitars.
Influences: Iron Monkey, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Krisiun, samba drum music.

it kind of has to happen - has it?

Dude, that band already exists, they're called Disturbed.

nickalicious, Monday, 11 November 2002 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't heard Disturbed... Do they dress up as monkeys?

dog latin, Monday, 11 November 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Crowbar seems to fit this, only with slowed down hardcore riffs instead of metal.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

And Sepultura Roots, same recipe (the hardcore riffs that is).

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

MAaayyybbeeee... but they don't dress up as monkeys do they?

dog latin, Monday, 11 November 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

they already exist and they are called the meatls

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

The members of Crowbar look like bald gorillas, and Sepultura look like crazed forest creatures. Close enough?

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but do they swing in tyres and throw their own faeces at the audience as part of the stage show? Bet they don't.

Band Name: Primate

Take out the samba and the guitars and you have the Apes.

Ground Monkeys used to exist in a similar form. Now they're all improvised guitar and drums nonsense, but they used to be a fierce rock band in the vein of The Jesus Lizard and early Milemarker. They also kept playing when the power went off with just drums and screaming "APES ARE WE" over and over and over. Also a member of the band just seemed to walk around the crowd and act like a monkey.

I am a big label executive and would like to know how to sign this band.

three years pass...
There's already a death metal band called Primate. And yes, they do wear monkey masks onstage. The masks they wear were actually used in the planet of the apes movies. You can check 'em out at www.soundclick.com/primateextremedeathmetal
