more than you might even want to know. but if anyone ever asks you on the street who Kid Nimble used to drum for, you will have the answer handy.

Yes, they are every bit the dodgy operation that their Hammer Studios-inspired name demands. Taste the boulders, and writh under ropes mr. dj.

Still, people keep telling me: "Witchfinder General, maaan!" so obviously there's something to be found there; but the frogs keep sneaking into my ears and creak it out of existence for me.
I'll stick with Candlemass.

I love this band. Found Friends of Hell on vinyl for $10 at a hipster record store here in Portland right before all the hipsters started buying Pentagram shirts. Lucky me!
Great riffs. Great production. Great sense of humor.

ORRSOME and now that their early EPs have been reissued by nuclear war now i've got everything. well, except that live album.
i can't believe i missed this thread for the past five years.

How come these guys have hipster cache and Angelwitch don't?
― Matt #2, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 08:56 (seventeen years ago)
i refuse to believe WG have hipster cache. they barely have metal-dude cache.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 09:40 (seventeen years ago)
They're early Sabbath clones, prone to using photos of chubby pin-ups in nun garb being tortured in the sunshine days as album cover art.
CHUBBY?!
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 09:41 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, the only people I know that listen to WG are pretty obsessed with doom.
But I would say it's an easier sell than Angelwitch because it's slower and more Sabbathy. The guy has a great voice.

all the metalheads i know love Angelwitch
― chaki, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)
Witchfinder General don't have hipster cachet. Angelwitch have absolutely no cachet. No songs either, just mediocre NWOBHM execution. Witchfinder had some tunes and an image slightly offensive enough to make them memorable for purists. Plus they had Zeeb, who was prone to announcing his name every so often in case you didn't know it.
As for the Witch bands, Witchfynde was much better than Angelwitch. But that's another story.
Now, what about Steve Zodiac and Vardis?
― Gorge, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 06:25 (seventeen years ago)
And the people on this thread keep mentioning Friends of Hell. The defining sound, tunes and lyrics are on Death Penalty.
Why to like Witchfinder General
