Tonight:
you wake before the sunriseand at five am you get on the buspeople look so resigned to the daily grindand you swear it'll never be youyou said that you were new in townno friends around no family to speak ofeveryone you met out here was just full of fearwith no time for dreams or schemesand as you're walking down the street what do you see?well there's cars, and strip mallsand little black houses what do they mean?
the city you live in is uglybut it wasn't meant to be
they covered up the Bomax signwith toys r us you didn't make a fussbut now you're regretting it and forgetting itand you dont drive by there much
you're working on broadway, the early shift in a new cafelately you've been pawning bills just for the thrillsand you boss hasnt noticed a thing
and you're feeling very lost in the world todaythere's no use for you hereand here's just the same as anywhere
the city you live in is uglybut it wasn't meant to beno it wasn't meant to be

I knew exactly who to call
Any world that I'm welcome to is better than the one I come from

Perhaps strangely, I associate Erlend Oye/Whitest Boy Alive's "Golden Cage" with the death of a cat.
"So of course I miss you and miss you badBut I also felt this way when I was still with you."
We knew that he was on his last legs and was likely to have a blood clot ... so we kind of grieved for him while he was still alive.
And I was probably just playing the track (I think in a remixed form) around the same time.
