Which albums have the most hooks?

After seeing Andrew W.K. this last weekend, I've come to the conclusion that I Get Wet has got to be one of the hookiest albums ever. Just piles and piles of 'em, one track after another. Every song is kind of the same but also memorable in their own way. I wonder how many other albums are like that. These albums don't even have to be all that good (though chances are I'll love 'em anyway), just stuffed to the gills with catchy and memorable tunes.
Right now, off the top of my head:

Sparks - Kimono My House
They Might be Giants - Flood
Devo - Freedom of Choice
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Naughty Boys
Denki Groove - Flash Papa
Joanna Wang - Galaxy Crisis
Plastics - Welcome Plastics
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone

Just looking for more stuff like this right now!!

I can think of one you're withholding, frogbs ;)

Will observe this thread with interest for now. Who doesn't like hooks?

Spirit Phone might legit be the catchiest album of recent years - nice initial list m8. Glad you've finally gotten into Joanna Wang too! Fighting the tide a bit though and I fear it's visuals puns from here on out

for sheer quantity trout mask replica should count for something. problem being that there are often two or three of them at once. but it's a really hooky record.

Green's debut LP:

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 26 October 2017 20:57 (seven years ago)

oh yeah the Carly Rae one is a good pick. even though I've heard it only twice I definitely got that vibe.

I dunno if I'd count any XTC albums here, Skylarking and Black Sea come pretty close but they dip into more serious songwriting

kinks - are the village green preservation society

thought about this one too. it only took like 2 listens before I felt like I knew all the songs by heart, so yeah.

by that measure I think maybe one or two Cake albums are worth mention too. maybe Prolonging the Magic.

frogbs, Thursday, 26 October 2017 20:59 (seven years ago)

i can't stop listening to look sharp! by joe jackson. it's so great and just an embarrassment of riches as far as hooks go.

scott seward, Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:02 (seven years ago)

New Order isn't even good as a joke -- they literally only have one hook.

IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:12 (seven years ago)

look sharp!/cars debut/pretenders debut are all i need sometimes.

hey man you asked for albums that are packed to the gills with hooks, black sea especially is wall to wall

harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:34 (seven years ago)

pet sounds was the first album that came to mind for me

Mordy, Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:38 (seven years ago)

There are a few Elvis Costello albums that I could nominate here. I guess, This Year's Model would be the most obvious contender.

kitchen person, Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:38 (seven years ago)

or is that too obvious? xp

Mordy, Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:39 (seven years ago)

cars tom petty and pretenders are all hook fountains for whom i rely on best-ofs, and best-ofs obviously can't be allowed itt

i think almost the entirety of the cars debut is on this best-of i'm listening to right now though...

harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 26 October 2017 21:44 (seven years ago)

just about any GBV album will have hooks-o-plenty

Kero Kero Bonito - Bonito Generation

someone put the whole first s/t rage against the machine album on the juke last night and that shit is hooky riff after hooky riff tbh

kurt schwitterz, Thursday, 26 October 2017 22:09 (seven years ago)

vulgar display of power also a barrage of hooky riffs

kurt schwitterz, Thursday, 26 October 2017 22:09 (seven years ago)

GBV was the first thing to came to my mind too. Something like Alien Lanes with...*checks* 28 tracks in 41 minutes... must rank near Flood in terms of distinct hooks per unit time.

Keeping things #90sUSIndie for a moment, His Name Is Alive's Stars on ESP seemed to be consciously striving for something like this, but I can't remember how it stacks up in practice.

Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Thursday, 26 October 2017 23:06 (seven years ago)

i do not think of hooks when i think of GBV

kurt schwitterz, Thursday, 26 October 2017 23:11 (seven years ago)

Can't believe Todd Rundgren hasn't been mentioned yet... his style is basically just hooks strung together into songs
