Dud, obviously.

So why'd you ask?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 November 2002 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I've only heard "Let's Work". The song was dud, but he gets points for running round and round the Top of the Pops studio when he performed it.

This was 1987. He might not manage this today.

I love the bit in 'American Psycho' where someone mentions meeting Jagger and Bateman says "Oh I know who that is...'Just Another Night'"

dave q, Monday, 11 November 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I love his solo career - it throws into high relief what a jerk he is and its conspicuous failure was obviously very embarrassing to the old tosser.

Lets Work - Lets Jerk more like.

Mick Jagger's solo career is the entire basis for the critical rehabilitation of Keith Richards' reputation.

i thought the last track on "Goddess in the Doorway" - wasn't it like an ambient, sort of glass clinking thing, no music really? - was pretty spectacular.

"Let's Work" came pretty damn close to being nominated by ILMers as the Worst Song Ever and the one song that every ILMer hated (except for one or two persons with, ahem, suspect taste).

It's hard to top Dave Q.'s description of "Let's Work" -- that it's actually more offensive than the collected works of G.G. Allin, Anal Cunt, and Patrick Sky combined. It's also the song to which the wives of the Mullet-Men got into shape.

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Let us not forget the cover of the album from which "Let's Work" came from -- a classic 'I must resist the times by showing how rough I am' move, which made the music even stupider somehow:

Ah, 1987.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

what exactly is Mick holding in his hand, anyway? i've always been curious ... and how does it relate to "primitive cool"?

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

'memo from turner' was a solo single, and is the tits.

matthew james (matthew james), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I like that Lenny Kravitz one, it rocks.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we including the soundtrack to that Kennith Anger film?

YYYYYYYEEEES AHM LUCCCKAAAAy, YYYES AHM LUCCCKAAYYYY!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

How about the collaboration with Dave Stewart on the "Ruthless People" soundtrack?

TMFTML (TMFTML), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

He played on Tackhead's "Strange Things"! (yes, it was an awful album)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I too have a soft spot for "God Gave Me Everything I Want." Certainly no worse than any recent Stones single. Plus he's one snarky assassin in Freejack, which also stars David Johannsen!

Anthony Miccio, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Plus all the record nerds I know always pretend they're Keith Richards when air guitaring to the Stones. How come nobody ever starts hand clapping and turkey strutting whenever they hear the Stones? Mick is way more fascinating.

Anthony Miccio, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Has Tackhead every done anything remembered by anyone?

dave q, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 08:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, yeah... by me. Lots of their stuff. There might be like five other people who care, too.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 08:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember hearing his songs "Sweet thing" and "Don't tear me up" some 10 years ago, and they were pretty f**king good. They're on his album Wandering Spirit (which I haven't heard), and it gets a whoopin' 4.5 stars at All Music Guide. So his solo stuff isn't completely dud.

Bubba, Wednesday, 13 November 2002 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

"Lucky In Love" twelve inch, Bill Laswell and Francois K production: classic, no doubt

three months pass...
Dud. Horrid. Embarrassing (sp?). But then Mick is a bit of a wanker. Of all the solo Stones records, Kieth's Talk Is Cheap stands head & shoulders above the rest.

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Sunday, 9 March 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i think it's about time for another Expensive Winos record...

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 9 March 2003 06:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That live Keith Richards Expensive Winos cd is a blast! Real fun to listen to, and the band sounds great.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 9 March 2003 06:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Could hardly be considered anything else but dud.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 9 March 2003 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Dud.

Even worse than his non-solo career, though admittedly less influential.

mei (mei), Sunday, 9 March 2003 12:24 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

Here's that track to the Kenneth Anger film. It's really quite wonderful.

It's hard to imagine Mick Jagger "distraught" tbh

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 March 2014 21:36 (twelve years ago)

Maybe a state of shock.
