At first I just wanted to do a poll of Carl's remixes, but then I realised there would be way too many options. And then I realised I could spin this out to about 3 or 4 polls and got quite excited.
Even with the below, I decided to reduce the sheer volume by doubling up where there were two similar remixes of the same track, as well as excluding the early remix work he did with Derrick May.
Anyway.
Not all of this is amazing. Some of it is merely fine. But I look at this list and I see so many tracks that seem to me to be astonishing, peerless, groundbreaking, constantly treading new territory in often surprising ways, and so often any given track is stylistically diametrically opposed to its contemporaneous neighbours. How did he pump these out in such quick succession? While also releasing some of the best house and techno albums of the era?
Is there a better artist of the last thirty years? More importantly, how will I choose just one?
I'll do some write-ups of some of my very favourites to assist people shortly. "Some" probably equals more than 10.
