The "Roadrunner"/"Radio Radio" big climactic ending - where did it come from?

You know:
DAAAAH, DAAH DAAH DAAAAH, DAAH DAAH DAAAAH, DAH DAH DAH DAAAAAAAAAAAH
or variations on that theme.
I've always assumed Costello was paying homage to "Roadrunner" by doing it at the end of "Radio Radio," but is "Roadrunner" the origin of this? Or did it come from something else?
