Hank Williams, Jr.

Hank, Senior's classic status is pretty much set in stone. And thanks to everyone participating in that thread.

Junior is another matter altogether. Anyone want to defend Bocephus?

Poor HJr. Not cool enough to hang with his dad's crowd, not pop enough for modern country.

Classic country radio wouldn't be the same without "Honky Tonkin'" and "Texas Women." The last album was kind of fun. He may yet get his second wind.

Crap politics, of course, but he was alright back in the late 70's.

Even though well past his prime (25 years?) he sure some right nicen's back in the day.

...Play me a song about a ramblin' man, with a cold one in my hand.
Cause you know I love to hear those guitar sounds.
Don't ya play, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", 'cause I'll get all balled up inside.
And I'll get whiskey bent and hellbound.

...even still, Junior's a novelty.

I shame-facedly admit to enjoying "Family Tradition." He can shove "If The South Woulda Won" right up his unreconstructed ass, though.

I'll take him over David Allan Coe or Charlie Daniels any day.

I'm sorry, I love this guy. I'll admit I've actually heard little but dig these song titles.

"I Like It When Its Stormy" (a different concept than J&MC's and Garbage's rain odes)

"Hank Hill Is The King" (for several seasons at least, he certainly was)

"Sometimes I Feel Like Joe Montana"
"Don Juan D'Bubba"
"Dirty Mind" (Sadly not a Prince cover)
"The Coalition To Ban Coalitions"
"Don't Give Us A Reason" (about Saddam Hussein, very timely now!)

and so many more. Actually, its the King Of The Hill ode more than anything that wins my heart.

I saw him in concert. He was a drunken, useless piece of shit.

Can't really defend anyone who wonders "if the South woulda won" as if that meant anything good. Hear that, Trent Lott?

Is this Hank Williams III? The one that worked with The Melivins? I'm confused.

No, it's his dad. 3 generations at work.

BrianB, Monday, 24 November 2003 15:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

His new album's called "I'm One of You." Little desperate, huh?

Fuck off, Bocephus ain't got nuthin' to prove. Hank Jr And Friends is a perfect country record. I like him, listen to him lots, sure as hell more than the friggin' Shins (who i also like)

Given the melody's resemblance to a certain Harry Chapin song, the New York friend oughtta would have died in a car accident on the LIE.
