Some backstory: In my late teens and early twenties, I really started to get lost in the search for rare grooves and breakbeats. A steady diet of Pete Rock + CL Smooth, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and DJ Shadow no doubt tempered my ears to prefer the slower, deeper cuts in the dusty used vinyl bins I was flipping through. Minor and major seventh turns always caught my attention and kept me searching for more. As I outgrew the search for sampled bits, I always maintained an active interest in those deep cuts. Not necessarily famous sampled bits, or even well-known tunes within that musician's catalogue, just things that always resonated heavy with me.
Here's a couple tunes that have the main characteristics that draw me inβ
Cymande β 'Changes'Odell Brown β 'Simizzoke'
As far as I can tell, the most prolific period for this sort of thing was the early 1970s, but I'm sure there has to be stuff along these lines from then until now; I am just not familiar with it.
Would love for you good folks to add on, and possible hip me to something I don't know.

Yeah, Isaac Hayes' first few albums on Stax were always a favorite then (and now). I haven't played them in ages, but I remember To Be Continued being easily my favorite.
Can't believe I forgot Shuggie Otis! Inspiration Information was one of the pillars upon which I developed my taste for this sort of thing. Still a personal classic to this day; and probably on my shortlist of favorite records ever.
