Yeah, the level of hype is abysmal for such a big act (well, at least considering Pharrell).
At first I thought it was about an album planned for next year or something. But a Care-o-Meter zero within a week of its release is... surprising !

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 11 December 2017 14:05 (seven years ago)

Although if 'Kites' is a cover of this then I'm interested.

nashwan, Monday, 11 December 2017 14:12 (seven years ago)

rihanna is good on 'lemon'

map, Monday, 11 December 2017 18:13 (seven years ago)

This will at least be fun for hearing the guest stars on tempos/feels that they usually don't deal with

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 11 December 2017 18:17 (seven years ago)

pharrell said with a straight face that sheeran is this generation's joni mitchell. needless to say i don't really trust his aesthetics anymore

scoff walker (diamonddave85), Monday, 11 December 2017 22:03 (seven years ago)

i love lemon, yeah

maura, Monday, 11 December 2017 22:07 (seven years ago)

Harsh but fair comment on this generation imo

albvivertine, Monday, 11 December 2017 22:08 (seven years ago)

Whoa

brimstead, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:33 (seven years ago)

I love Lemon but it sounds half-sketched... like they’re not sure on what to do with the track in the first minute or so before Rihanna comes in.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 06:02 (seven years ago)

dunno man, once Rihanna comes in it's on, so think it works

In a slipshod style (Ross), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 06:17 (seven years ago)

Harsh but fair comment on this generation imo

Eheh. agreed !
Also that kind of comments is always stupid but doesn't necessarily impact the quality of the music made : I remember Daft Punk saying something like Pharrell being up there with Curtis Mayfield circa RAM...

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:11 (seven years ago)

Something a bit depressing about the tracklist really, when you think about how central they used to be to both hip-hop and R&B and this is them collaborating with a load of artists they've never really been associated with (except Gucci and Kendrick, a bit). It just underlines how peripheral they are.

Also I can't imagine anything with both Future and Pharrell working without one or both of them sounding awkward or corny as hell.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:44 (seven years ago)

Oh wait, I just remembered that 'Move That Dope' exists, guess it's Pharrell who gets to be the awkward and corny one.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:45 (seven years ago)

pharrell said with a straight face that sheeran is this generation's joni Mitchell

brb just off to purchase shotgun

The Dearth of Stollen (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:59 (seven years ago)

Well, concerning the guests, they all seem coherent with N.E.R.D to me... except for Sheeran, of course !

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 10:44 (seven years ago)

I listened to "Lemon" and "1000" yesterday.
The Rihanna track is pretty cool. Not great but cool.
"1000" I might too sure. Seems a bit of a mess with some groovy parts.

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 13 December 2017 10:29 (seven years ago)

the three new songs they did for the Spongebob movie a couple of years ago were pretty strong I thought https://youtu.be/a7XvCvmbEGI

Nerdstrom Poindexter, Wednesday, 13 December 2017 17:44 (seven years ago)

The album is out on Spotify !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 15 December 2017 12:44 (seven years ago)

Apple Music too

Nerdstrom Poindexter, Friday, 15 December 2017 17:24 (seven years ago)

i fell really hard for fly or die in high school so i'll always give a new n.e.r.d album a shot

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 17:58 (seven years ago)

and immediately "deep down body thurst" sounds extremely like a n.e.r.d song. i like it a lot

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 18:00 (seven years ago)

I like the just-Kendrick collab, but the one with MIA is sadly unlistenable

Simon H., Friday, 15 December 2017 18:02 (seven years ago)

this is about 50 percent weird and good and 50 percent underwritten and annoying. so, another n.e.r.d album

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 18:42 (seven years ago)

Ha this album feels like a mess but still, good for them? Maybe it'll inspire some kids to make better weirdo music.

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 15 December 2017 18:53 (seven years ago)

my favorite songs are the ones without guests lol

fuuuuuck the andré song

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 19:02 (seven years ago)

lol yes it's very bad

Simon H., Friday, 15 December 2017 19:05 (seven years ago)

anyway, great excuse to revisit fly or die, a record enjoyed probably only by me and tyler the creator

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 19:09 (seven years ago)

ok kid cudi too

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 15 December 2017 19:25 (seven years ago)

this is way weirder than I thought it would be, it sounded like a mess on first listen, too much ideas going on.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 15 December 2017 21:37 (seven years ago)

Every song has something cool going on but then it goes on for too long or shifts to a mood breaker... like for example the second half of Lightning Fire Magic Prayer has a great beat finally in place but then they slow it down into some slow, weird synth jerk off. They kind of do this in every song, take two very disparate moods (from frantic to meandering) and place them one against the other. I don't think it works tbh but need to listen to ir further.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 15 December 2017 21:44 (seven years ago)

Hum. After one listen this is pretty bad. The only ok track might be the Rhihanna one. The rest is barely listenable.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 15 December 2017 22:01 (seven years ago)

this album is dope cause it sounds like Clones II

Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix), Saturday, 23 December 2017 23:53 (seven years ago)

six months pass...

So people lit this? The ri feature is the ripest for a 15 min jam

Garden variety uncouth (Ross), Sunday, 1 July 2018 08:31 (six years ago)

one month passes...

Cut out all the neptunes only tracks and this album is way better. The anti trump one about the wall is so god awful
