Saturation III is out today and it's wild.

I only heard the second one a few weeks ago and was my jam for a couple days.

Saturation II raised the bar:

Saturation III sounds just about as good to me on first listen. Rare act that actually pulled off the three albums in a year gimmick.
― Evan R, Friday, 15 December 2017 16:40 (seven years ago)
first impression: the first group that has used D12's "Purple Pills" as a jump off for their aesthetic (i dig it)
― Joan Digimon (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 15 December 2017 16:44 (seven years ago)
idgi

― infinity (∞), Friday, 15 December 2017 17:24 (seven years ago)
Just got introduced to them when my 13-yr-old son played "SISTER/NATION" in the car. The first thing he's played me where I was like, what is this?
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 05:43 (seven years ago)
hearing them freaked me out enough to start the music of the internet generation but maybe they're good idk
― #TeamHailing (imago), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 10:19 (seven years ago)
I haven't listened enough to know if they're good, but that's at least an interesting track. It def sounds of the moment.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 14:43 (seven years ago)
They're good. These guys are putting out head-turning tracks faster than just about anybody else right now. Three albums in one year, and each of them felt wild and new
― Evan R, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 15:07 (seven years ago)
yeah I loved Saturation II and spent most of Xmas blasting III.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 15:13 (seven years ago)
At the least, this group stands out. I liked not loved Saturation II but feel like they have a lot of potential
― Vinnie, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 15:54 (seven years ago)
Of course ilx loves this 🙄
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 15:57 (seven years ago)
fwiw I really like the latest Tyler album and it seems like he got over being a showy jerk to focus on his never-in-question musical talent so I'm looking forward to at least one of this lot doing similar in 5 years

I guess every generation gets the Jurassic 5 it deserves.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 16:58 (seven years ago)
guess this generation is way better than the generation that got Jurassic 5
― porg and bess (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)
yeah that comparison is lost on me. Brockhampton is like Jurassic 5 how?
― Evan R, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:25 (seven years ago)
there are a few good brockhampton songs, which is nice since we're supposed to be so impressed by them putting out like 45 of them last year
i have a hard time separating the critical discussion of them from their branding... the tail has really wagged the dog in that regard
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:26 (seven years ago)
I don't know. Are people impressed by excess? It's exhausting having to think about consuming three albums. I barely touched the first.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:28 (seven years ago)
I'm not impressed by the quantity of their output, but by the range of ideas/voices/muses/songwriting techniques and gambits they continue to introduce on each one. Maybe it's just the sheer amount of artists involved—no given one really has time to repeat themselves or wear out their welcome—but all three of these albums feel really fresh and vital to me
― Evan R, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:35 (seven years ago)
ya there albums are way too long
also i guess brockhampton seems to be as progressive as j5 but everything else about them is pretty different
― infinity (∞), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:41 (seven years ago)
it's just all too positive and "trad-alternative" for me. I can't get into it at all.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 17:52 (seven years ago)
what's positive about bragging about sucking white cock?
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)
what's not positive about it?

I'm only just now digging into all this mess. "Boogie" is retroactively my favorite track of 2017 (not really, but at least today).
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 27 January 2018 16:31 (seven years ago)
yeah Boogie is pretty fantastic, definitely their best single
― ufo, Saturday, 27 January 2018 16:49 (seven years ago)
cannon is still my favourite track but it's not on any of their albums, probably because it's grandpa rap and/or too depressing

OFL sounds good
― The Silky Veils of Alfred (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 21 September 2018 12:47 (six years ago)
lots going on, interesting clash of aggressive synth sounds and a surprising amount of piano and strings
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Friday, 21 September 2018 15:11 (six years ago)
the album's all about those aggressive synths suddenly opening up into moments of beauty
― ufo, Friday, 21 September 2018 15:24 (six years ago)
Yeah I like this album a lot. It's not as immediately grabbing as Saturation III, but I like a bunch of the songs and the grime influences are a nice addition. Hate to say I miss Ameer because good riddance, but he was actually one of their best MCs, they don't have anyone else as lyrically interesting. Super likable band and album tho.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Friday, 28 September 2018 01:58 (six years ago)
truly mystified that so many ilxors are drawn to these guys
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Friday, 28 September 2018 04:40 (six years ago)
The inconsistency fascinates me. A mediocre rapper followed by a good one, terrible stresses and good lines, musique concrète followed by keyboards/synths. They have no idea what they're doing, and the strength of their queer politics often exceeds their abilities to express them, but this is a strength too.
― The Silky Veils of Alfred (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 September 2018 17:57 (six years ago)
For me the let's-put-on-a-show vibe of the whole thing is appealing, even when component parts are flat (which plenty are).
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Friday, 28 September 2018 19:30 (six years ago)
i....... cannot believe that adults listen to this music
― J0rdan S., Friday, 28 September 2018 21:39 (six years ago)
Probably half of all musicians don’t know what they’re doing, so I’m not sure how good of a description that isHaven’t listened to the new one but i do agree they are incredibly inconsistentI like their weirdness though
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 28 September 2018 22:10 (six years ago)
enjoying ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE - feels a little more thought-through / fully formed than the other albums/tapes of theirs I've heard
― intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Friday, 9 April 2021 15:00 (four years ago)
No chatter about this album? It is...brief.
― So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 12 April 2021 16:55 (four years ago)
I listened to it tonight. It sounds nice but I think they’ve a little bit too much found a vibe whereas a big part of what I liked about then was their unpredictability and random shit. So it’s most probably a better record, and most probably deserving of repeat listens, but nothing stood out at first.
