would this be the new boring s-k then?

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

So Autoclave sounds like Pearl Jam by the Transitive property?

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Josh don't deny yr grunge roots!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Josh washes his hair more than you think.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Josh is IN THE SHOWER RIGHT NOW. He communicates via waterproof keyboards.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Jonathan, I'd be more than happy to clarify yr equation (since you can't go from Autoclave to S-K w/out going through Fugazi - think of all these groups as members of a grunge Taylor Series, sez the Calc II reject), but I'm about to fall on my head from lack of sleep. That, & I'm not in the mood to rewrite the wheel.

That said, the new Pearl Jam doesn't sound half-bad. This assumes, of course, that you think _Yield_ is their high-water mark, that you have a fondness for their bombastic old skool stuff, that you don't mind musical acts falling on their butts in pursuit of Art, and that Eddie Vedder's voice doesn't make you wanna swab your ears with icepicks.

ned I was, that is creepy please stop

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

dave, no code was their high-water mark

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the high water mark was the "Evenflow" video. Have you seen that thing recently? Do, and realize what HITS OF THE '90S ads will look like.

Transitive property? Calculus? Why all the maths all of a sudden? Not that I mind. Yummy maths.

Oh, BTW, I keep getting confused when people say SK because SK could be two of my fave bands, Sleater Kinney or Shonen Knife.

Any other SK bands?

Too late. Stay in the camera shot, please.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I rilly think a Maclaurin series is more appropriate here.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay Pearl Jam! Yay Sleater Kinney! Yay Shonen Knife! Boo calculus!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I prefer the new Pearl Jam actually.

David Allen, Wednesday, 13 November 2002 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

you take that back about the calculus

Josh (Josh), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot how to spell Maclaurin, so I went w/ the general term. (I only got a B in Calc II, and I've tried like hell to forget the 3 things I actually learned. It almost worked.)

This is Pearl Jam's 7th album! For some reason, this fact shocks me. I bought it today w/ _Blueprint 2_ & _Under Construction_. All y'all naysayers better be dead wrong (about the latter two, that is).

Could someone remix _Ten_ and get rid of both the 2+ minute wanky codas and the ponderous-sounding Rick Parashar reverb? I'd appreciate it, and I wouldn't be the only one.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 03:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Vedder now looks like Shatner in his prime.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i do not agree with the original premise

ron (ron), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I think Josh is right re: PJ's peak. Damn that "Pilate".

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 06:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i will allow that all the pearl jam songs i haven't heard may in fact sound like sleater-kinney

ron (ron), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 06:13 (twenty-three years ago)

thirteen years pass...

"Got Some" is totally their attempt to write an S-K song. There's some real similarity in the harmonies on e.g. "World Wide Suicide" as well.

on a friend's terrace last Sunday I kept going GOT SUM IF YA NEED IT every time a new PJ song started.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 January 2016 00:44 (ten years ago)

I was really disappointed that Lightning Bolt mostly shunned attempts to be fun in favor of po-faced mid-tempo glug. That opening run on Backspacer was really unexpected.

When I listen to the late-period mud of Pearl Jam, I usually think

"why does this band have three guitarists?"
