She's been mentioned in a few threads but doesn't have one of her own. Well that's no longer true. Let's anticipate Anna von Hausswolff new album 'Dead Magic', out March 2.

Me, my band and Randall Dunn spent 9 days in Copenhagen recording this record. The great pipe organ you’re hearing is a 20th century instrument located in Marmor Kirken, "The Marble Church", Copenhagen.

Here is a poem for you by the Swedish writer Walter Ljungquist (1900-1974):

"Take the fate of a human being, a thin pathetic line that contours and encircles an infinite and unknown silence. This is the best album I have ever heard

Saw her live last year and I've been hooked ever since, she's incredible.

Daughter of legendary art hero and co-ruler of Elgaland/Vargaland Carl Michael von Hausswolff and noted visual artist Annika von Hausswolff; sister of acclaimed cinematographer Maria von Hausswolff.

The Hausswolff clan are a talented bunch.

this album is so immense i love it. reminiscent of the swans reunion albums but a little less self-indulgent and all the better for it

yeah no it's the swans album i actually wanted and never got

it's all the things I liked in those albums but only those things and nothing more

I thought at first Greta van Fleet would sound like this

I'm more taken with her new LP, all pieces for solo organ, than with her previous one, which occasionally felt like it was trying too hard to impress the goth crowd. Minimalism (not in the Glass/Reich sense) suits her well.

Hard to miss her voice when what she's doing here is so moving and impressive, damn. Minimalism suits her well, indeed. This might just be my favourite album of her.

There's definitely a Glass vibe on track 6. Agreed overall, this is really good! The organ is making me wonder what a Shackleton collab would sound like.

It's undoubtedly there, yes; I was just trying to clumsily point out that she's not just riffing on the minimalist organ sounds of old.

Ceremony destroyed my life and the subsequent couple of albums did little for me in comparison (but were still excellent), I think minimalism suits her best.

I don't think there's an album I've heard this year that has grabbed me so immediately and with such force.

ooh this album (All Thoughts Fly) is good, thanks for recommending it pomenitul. by the last couple of songs I was on the verge of screaming with the intensity.

I'd never heard her work outside of her collaborations with Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room and Tribulation, but I am absolutely loving the new Live at Montreux album, this is tremendous. Which of her previous albums come closest to this vibe?

the material is all from dead magic and the miraculous, so choose one of those. my fav is dead magic

Dusted off The Miraculous today for the first time in ages, no idea why I hadn't listened to it in so long. I picked it up after I fell in love with Ceremony, they're both tremendous.

it's a bit less goth but still utterly immense and the sax is a wonderful addition

this is her pop album, at least to the extent that you can have "struggle with the beast" on a pop album

It’s difficult to overstate just how fantastic this album is.

Describing it as “pop” makes sense in the context of Anna’s prior work - especially given after Dead Magic it seemed like she was moving away from song structures - but it feels odd to describe an album that reminds me of some mix of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘A Kiss in the Dreamhouse’, Scott Walker’s ‘Tilt’ and the last two These New Puritans albums as “pop”

yeah it's not really a pop album but it is her pop album

a lot of it sounds outright uplifting and there is this sort of classic pop sensibility to a lot of the melodies, it's her most accessible

but there's also wild wailing sax everywhere, an 8-minute drone track, and so on

i love "the iconoclast" and "struggle with the beast" so much

insanely good album. big beautiful and haunted

with all due respect to Iggy Pop, is there a version of "The Whole Woman" without Iggy Pop

Loving this. I've always liked her, but in kind of a chin-scratchy way. This is much more compelling.
