A lot of this stuff is too tasteful for me. I prefer the cheesier, hands-in-the-air stuff. This one is dreamy and just slightly embarassing. Really bold melody and angelic (you'll see) vocals.

These are fun but I almost prefer the cheap DFC compilations which don’t remove all the traces of cheese and vocals and ridiculous sound effects & such … not to be a purist but I feel like I don’t just want to hear melodic transcendence at such a rapid pace

I feel like a lot of this stuff is cheesy in a different way - sentimental and grand rather than hands-in-the-air. These big emo chord pads are designed for ecstasy moments.

I think as well when you listen to a compilation of this stuff in one sitting it's great as a vibe, there's so much textural opulence - but this stuff wasn't designed to be consumed that way, these are dance music singles which are meant to interact and react to other stuff played around them. Something like "Kiss Me (Don't Be Afraid)" can sound dreamy and sensual, but pitch it up and play it inbetween other vocal stuff and it feels more like a crossover moment.

no I would never have even thought of checking a venga record for good tracks! rufdug played it on his nts show a couple of weeks back. there is a promo 12" of it, but it goes for a bit more than you'd expect a vengaboys record to normally go for, so I think the magic digger elite already knew about this one. weird though eh? not sure how the vengabros worked but maybe this was ghostwritten by a more recognised name in the genre?
