what are ppl's favorite nocturnes? john field is mentioned in w&p so on tolstoy's recommendation i checked him out and he really has some lovely pieces (from dublin! and then w/ a long term residence in st petersburg)

i prefer the wistful twilight ones to the bouncy parlor party ones

I listened to Field's first seven nocturnes and first piano sonata today, having never listened to him much before. I'm getting into him pretty well. Nice transition from Classical formalism to the Romantic style of Chopin/Liszt.
