She's mentioned rather scattered across this board, mostly referenced in Broadcast-related threads (which is understandable), but Gwenno Saunders (formerly of the Pipettes) really deserves her own thread. She already made the great 'Y Dydd Olaf' album. Her new album, 'Le Kov', is out: dreamy, orchestral pop ye olde pastoral English style. The record is sung entirely in Cornish (it's on spotify). File under: Broadcast, Laurel Halo, Stereolab and the likes.

The Quietus published a fantastic review of the new album. Emphasizing not just the music, which is great on its own, but very precisely, and justly, praising it for rooting the soul of the record in a dying/near-extinct language: Cornish. "Le Kov is also a sort of linguistic hauntology project, a monument and a pleasurable dissent."

she doesn't sound a damn thing like a pirate on this record, i'm a bit disappointed

I was about to say, what is this, Breton? Which is, of course, merely Cornish with a French accent.

Really enjoying this. Deserves much better than a Laurel Halo comparison

As does she.

Oh, it's great. So is the last one.
Who could've predicted The Pipettes contained so much talent?

Her new album is great. Her and Rose are killing it at the moment.

A few months behind, but I certainly became obsessed with this record as of today.

Ha, yeah - it is one of those kind of records. I couldn't praise this and Y Dydd Olaf highly enough.

Listening to this stuff inspired by my language learning but would like it in any case without that aspect.

Wonder if she is supposed to be Andromeda on the cover of Môr Hud.

TIL that she released a few EPs before she joined The Pipettes, that her sister and fellow Pipette Ani Saunders (along with a third sister) was also raised trilingual and that Ani seems to have recently defended a doctoral dissertation.
