Inside out

kolakube (Ross), Thursday, 15 March 2018 00:29 (seven years ago)

stone cold classic! i could probably vote for five or six songs off this thing and would have no regrets. i'm sure my choice would be different if i have not seen them like five times since this album came out. "Inside Out" might be the best song this band has done but hearing "Rainy Taxi" live a few times now, it's transcendent and easily gets my vote here.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 March 2018 00:32 (seven years ago)

2. Inside Out
3. Rainy Taxi
4. Do You
5. Knock Knock Knock
6. Outlier

this run is unimpeachable

i think Inside Out is prob the best though

ciderpress, Thursday, 15 March 2018 00:32 (seven years ago)

i'm glad the Spoon poll was done after this album, it was perfect timing. even if it wasn't totally soaked in for me at that point.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 March 2018 01:33 (seven years ago)

Really like this band and this album. Inside Out is the safe choice and I’m usually a contrarian but it’s so good I don’t care.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 15 March 2018 06:35 (seven years ago)

Outlier or New York Kiss but probably Outlier

nate woolls, Thursday, 15 March 2018 09:16 (seven years ago)

New York Kiss > Let Me Be Mine=Inside Out=Do You=Knock Knock Knock=Outlier > Rainy Taxi > They Want My Soul > Rent I Pay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I Just Don't Understand.

lana del boy (ledge), Thursday, 15 March 2018 09:22 (seven years ago)

You must poll Girls Can Tell next

nate woolls, Thursday, 15 March 2018 09:23 (seven years ago)

I prefer Hot Thoughts (heard last night again; still dig it), but this has immense songs. Voted "New York Kiss" -- one giant hook.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 March 2018 11:31 (seven years ago)

Lots of great options but I went with "Rainy Taxi," which lives up to its title

Simon H., Thursday, 15 March 2018 12:32 (seven years ago)

outlier, mostly for the line about garden state. whole album is great though.

iatee, Thursday, 15 March 2018 14:24 (seven years ago)

@ Mate, I will and surprised that it wasn't already done.

haven't listened to this in a while, but iirc the title track sunk its hooks in me for the longest

piper at the gates of d'awwww (voodoo chili), Thursday, 15 March 2018 20:21 (seven years ago)

"I Just Don't Understand" was good live as they brought out Dale Watson at the show i saw. though i do agree with some here, it's the weakest song on the album.

Bee OK, Friday, 16 March 2018 03:14 (seven years ago)

Ooh, thanks for reminding me to re-listen to this one. My favorite Spoon album.

BTW, there's a great Song Exploder episode where Jim Eno breaks down "Inside Out": http://songexploder.net/spoon
I always thought of their music as somewhat minimal (surely all that empty space = less to worry about), but that podcast gave me an appreciation of how much is actually going on in their songs.

Do You > Inside Out > New York Kiss > They Want My Soul > Rainy Taxi > Outlier > Rent I Pay > Let Me Be Mine > I Just Don't Understand > Knock Knock Knock

Not only is this the best song on the album or maybe in their catalog but might be my favorite video of all-time:

Whoa I love the song but hadn’t watched the video. It’s amazing.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 17 March 2018 08:33 (seven years ago)

'Inside Out' is definitely a top 5 in their entire catalog for me as well.

campreverb, Saturday, 17 March 2018 15:41 (seven years ago)

that video is pretty damn cool.

New York Kiss, what a stone cold classic

austinb, Saturday, 17 March 2018 23:11 (seven years ago)

Voting "Rent I Pay" because of the lack of love on this thread and is a hell of a way to start an album.

Blue Room, Sunday, 18 March 2018 03:05 (seven years ago)

This album is great and is top heavy.

Blue Room, Sunday, 18 March 2018 03:06 (seven years ago)

New York Kiss all the way.

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 18 March 2018 15:07 (seven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 19 March 2018 00:01 (seven years ago)

NYK easily

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 19 March 2018 00:18 (seven years ago)

i'm beginning to wonder if "New York Kiss" might actually win this in an upset?

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 01:28 (seven years ago)

why upset?

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 19 March 2018 01:28 (seven years ago)

"Inside Out"

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 01:29 (seven years ago)

when it comes down to it "Inside Out" is the quintessential Spoon song.

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 01:31 (seven years ago)

Bee OK, there is something wrong with the images in that Spoon poll.

the future is now, Monday, 19 March 2018 03:07 (seven years ago)

i think i can do this...

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 13:55 (seven years ago)

Rainy Taxi = Inside Out > New York Kiss > Do You > Rent I Pay > Knock Knock Knock > Let Me Be Mine > Outlier > They Want My Soul >>> I Just Don't Understand

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 13:58 (seven years ago)

I actually found out about the image issue a few months back. Thanks for the reminder that I need to fix that.

Bee OK, Monday, 19 March 2018 20:08 (seven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 00:01 (seven years ago)

glad LMBM got a vote

Simon H., Tuesday, 20 March 2018 00:15 (seven years ago)

me too, this is about right. it's almost the same as ILMs Spoon poll from up thread.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 01:23 (seven years ago)

eleven months pass...

These days I think "Inside Out" is their pinnacle song, correct winner. I do wonder if it would do better if we did the Spoon artist poll over? It came out at 19, which seems robbed looking at it today.

the future is now, Thursday, 21 February 2019 01:43 (six years ago)

I have no idea how Me And The Bean won that one.

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 21 February 2019 02:09 (six years ago)

timely bump, i just got Spoon tickets for this summer. they are opening up for Beck.

almost feels like we might be getting a new album this year, it has been a year and a half or so.
