However... where's the Legion of Doom theme tune? That's just a sodding crime.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE CACTUS JACK THEME?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

A vote here for the Ultimate Warrior music. Genuinely exciting.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

And more to the point, why didn't Bob Mould do any after his wierd adventure into the world of wrestling scripts?

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Also... where's the Justin Hawk Bradshaw theme from 1996? It's a shame they've not used the WCW archives for the themes as well, "He's Smoking", Barry Windham's old theme, was ker-classic.

They've used the Jim Johnson stuff mainly, if I'm right, there's only two Jimmy Hart composed tracks on there. (Hogan and Di Biase's)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I like how they have cute little titles for all the themes, but it makes me wonder what Tajiri's is. "That Wacky Jap"?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

What was it Steve Corino called Tajiri again? "Slanty Eyed Cunt"? Perhaps taking heel tactics a bit too far...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh, perhaps Steve was working behind the scenes at the WWE a while back to develop Tajiri's storylines. "Yeah, uh... make sure his entrance video has this yellow tint, and have him make his valet dress like a geisha!"

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i tried to assign a story on the -- people? trolls? whatever -- that write the wrestler's entrance music. never ended up going anywhere, unfortunately.

bucky wunderlick (bucky), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

no "grab them cakes" by junkyard dog?
no "i wanna be a hulkamaniac" by the hulkster?
no "soviet national anthem" as interpreted by nicolai volkoff?

The majority of WWF theme music was done by a guy called Jim Johnson (or Jim Johnston?). For the past ten years, the majority of themes have been just chug-chug-chug power chords, except for some random rapping to signify that a wrestler is black. Some of the early 80s cartoon era WWF stuff was done by a guy called Jimmy Hart, who was a succesful musician in his own right. Anyway, Hart later on went to make music for WCW, most of which was damn right awful, especially the "tributes" to other bands songs (qf the "Come Out And Play" rip-off that constituted Raven's intro, or, my favourite, the appalling "Smells Like Bang" Cobain-Muzak that constitued DDP's entrance).

ECW led the way with proper theme music though. Particular classics being Mikey Whipwreck entering to Beck's "Loser", Rob Van Dam's "Walk" by Pantera (complete with the thumbs, obv), Balls Mahoney entering to AC/DC's "Big Balls" (ultimate crowd participation tune), and, the most famous entrance in wrestling, "Enter Sandman", which signalled the entering of... well, The Sandman.

That's a basic knowledge, anyway...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

The biggest crime on that scale, Tony, is the vanishment of "Jive Soul Bro" by Slick. If it had've had the video as well, featuring Slick eating fried chicken and watermelon... ah, and they say wrestling perpetuates negative stereotypes.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually like the weird, super-thrash-tempo Bad Brains-esque theme they had going for Palumbo and O'Haire sometime last year. I'm not sure if O'Haire still uses it as his entrance theme, though.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Searching for the thread where people post their IM names, I found this magnificence hiding in the archives & I'm waking it up. My friend Allyson on Hulk Hogan's video for "Real American," upon first seeing it: "That is the most aggressive form of Dada I have ever seen"

If anyone has that episode of Beavis and Butt-head where they riff on that video, FOR GOD'S SAKE SEND ME AN E-MAIL
