The Beat, with no hesitation.

Thirding (fourthing?) Save It For Later. Incredible song.

This is "Rio" just for the bass line and I will fight you all, one at a time or all at once.

Elsewise, it's "Cool Places."

I think it's in the classic albums doc that DD reveals Taylor couldn't do the bass part in one take, and punched in as needed with the stuff (like slapping and pops) he couldn't fluidly pull off. Maybe it was a different song?

Cool Places video chock full of that weird '80s dancing. It's no "Rush Hour" (but it is sort of Devo).

Voted "Love My Way", which has always had a special place in my heart.

I heard this segment on NPR nine years ago and ever since I can't hear Save It For Later without thinking of Adam Duritz boogying it up on acid at the last English Beat show.

August 3, 2009 - For Adam Duritz, lead singer of the band Counting Crows, the perfect summer song is "Save It for Later" by The English Beat.

"There's just something about the joy of the song," Duritz says. "It just seems so Technicolor to me."

Duritz recently spoke to NPR's Melissa Block about camping out in the summer of 1982 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif., to see The English Beat perform.

"The sun had gone down, so the lights and the colors from the stage were lighting up as they came to play," Duritz says. "It's funny, because I'm picturing it in the sunlight, and I'm sure that they played it at night. It just seems like this crystalline, perfect summer day, and I'm just euphoric, and this song is just shimmering."

The song functions as a piece of nostalgia for Duritz. That performance he attended was the last show The English Beat ever played. Duritz says that, as a result, it represents for him "those feelings that you don't get to hold on to."

I realize it doesn't explicitly say he was on acid there, but

Each volume seems to have one or two songs I've never heard of, let alone heard. This one has "Teenage Enema Nurse," which I am now listening to for the first time ever. Wacky!

People talk about The Smiths being one of those bands that'll never re-form, but it's painfully true of The Beat... VH-1 had a good go at trying to get them back together, but according to Wakeling they fucked it up so royally that it pretty much ensured the band would never reform.

lot of really good songs here but Save It For Later is just a miracle. One of those songs that, when I remember hearing it as a brand new song from the band all the theater kids loved, I feel like -- wow, lucky me, I got to be there for that moment. I consider "I Confess" even better but as it's not on this poll that's neither here nor there

yeah ‘i confess’ is probably my favourite song by the beat, but talk about going out on a high - that whole album is glorious. such a shame that the uk had given up giving a shit about them by that stage

"Sign of the Times" is a good song - I maybe like rather than love it - but it had a lot of tough competition.
