The radio spots are all amazing. I'll have to think about which actual song to pick.

So hard. I could have easily voted for paradise, you can never go home again or give him a great big kiss

Great Big Kiss is one of my all-time favorites (by anyone) – but that disc has at least 8 stone classics...

The main thing that'll rule out some of these tracks for me is that even greater versions were performed by other girl groups of that era (the Pussycats' rendition of 'Dressed in Black', f'rinstance, is one of my favorite songs of all time).

On a side note, a SSK search for this comp a decade and a half ago led me to discovering the band Sophisticated Boom Boom, who were Swiss contemporaries of Liliput/Kleenex and a lot of fun. Recommended.

I dig this “Dressed in Black,” but the Ikettes’ “I’m Blue” obviously destroys (that one wasn’t at all suited for the Shangri-Las).

I'm just so impressed by how perfect a record "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" is, given that it's the product of a first-time songwriter/first-time producer and a bunch of teenagers. So that's my choice.

I always liked "Right Now and Not Later" as well, with its funky Motown-ish bass line. It's a unique groove for this group.

"Past, Present, and Future"... pretty stunning, what is there to say.

What's missing from this particular comp is their last two singles from when they switched to the Mercury label, which are both great:
Sweet Sounds of Summer / I'll Never Learn; and Footsteps on the Roof / Take the Time

There’s also (pushes glasses up on nose) another version of this same comp which swaps “Simon Says” / “Simon Speaks” for two other great early tunes – “Wishing Well” and “Hate to Say I Told You So.”
