New band featuring Brendan Canty & Joe Lally (Fugazi) with guitarist Anthony Pirog. They deserve better than a few brief mentions on Fugazi threads. Pirog in particular is really impressive: versatile, has a great tone, uses effects really creatively. Parts of the album make me think of what Gone might have sounded like with Nels Cline on guitar.

Still can’t decide whether I like some of Pirog’s art-rock flourishes . Canty & Lally offer that same distinctive Fugazi bottom.

I think I have a few of those Messthetics comps, will have to dig em out when I get home, as iirc it's on one of the earlier volumes (no Youtube at work)

The new one is the Album of the Week over at Stereogum. I do not have the acumen to evaluate it as "jazz" but I think it's neat, and the fact of Lally & Canty continuing to make music together just feels good, man

There has been a bit of discussion of them on other threads including Fugazi one. I haven’t heard the new album yet. Am hoping Pirog limits his prog rock tendencies on it .

I mean if by "prog tendencies" you mean "long widdly guitar solos," then no, he does not. But I tend to enjoy his, so it's not too much of a problem for me.
