I was surprised to see no mention of this in my searches. The map and design are cool, but drilling down into the contents are less satisfying, but with great potential. I could see clicking on various parts of the map with different well-curated Spotify playlists.

i'm sure purists/experts on each genre will find much to object to in the simplified written genre summaries with their excess of bolded phrases
i guess this project is open about how these 'genres' have all been retrospectively defined... but that can often obfuscate how this music was thought about and enjoyed at the time imo, not to mention exaggerate differences that barely existed and were seldom acknowledged as important back in the day. (cf much of the history of blues)

This is the kind of thing I can get lost in for hours, but yeah a lot of the write-ups struck me as making shit up. I've mainly been investigating the dance music section.
