Has dance music reached PEAK tech house?

It's kinda dumb, kinda fun and kinda taking over house music in 2018. Westcoast festival kids raised on EDM and Dubstep at EDC are piling in en masse to Dirtybird BBQs and Desert Hearts camp outs. Meanwhile in Europe labels like Hot Creations and Toolroom pump out track after track from artists like Hot Since 82, Jamie Jones, Mark Knight and Damian Lazarus.

Musically it's very DJ centric with long mixable intros/outros and draws from a very lean sonic palette: 808 claps, rolling sub bass, pitched down vocal samples and, of course, 32 bar breaks that crescendo into a huge drop engineered to send the dance floor into a frenzy.

Do you see the tech house wave cresting in 2018 or does this trend have some legs?

Despite the fact that I've long loved dance music that has a stoopid element I loathe 99.9% of this stuff, though I can totally understand why it is so popular.

Anyway, I think we are still quite a way off PEAK tech house and it has a long, long way to run. UK top 40 will possibly be full of it post festival season.

I just hope my continued exposure to it remains low.

I went to a night that sounds like this (Ben Pest was one of the DJs, can't remember who else). it was dumb but fun and people were having a good time. very big and in yer face but not in an overtly cheesy or spoonfeeding way. no problems with this sound at all

I think if Ben Pest was playing it was probably something a lot better than generic tech house.

if we're talking mainstream dance music I think in a lot of places tech-house never really left!

would love to know the .1% of tech house tracks you enjoy stirmonster

Well, i think what was originally known as tech house and what tech house is in 2018 are two very different things.

Googling "tech house classics" brought this up, from 2001 - https://www.discogs.com/Various-Tech-House-Classics/release/59234

Off that I like around 75% of it and would still play several tracks out.

I can't off the top off my head think of a 2018 tech house track I like but I'm not going to 100% write any genre off. I will report back if anything current springs to mind.
