Mental illness seems largely associated with 60s psychedelia and hippies, whereas learning difficulties seem to surface mainly in punk and punk-influenced rock. This is not surprising, but it does tell you something about the respective fictionalised/romanticised images of the two classes of condition.

Anyway, the point I was getting to...
She's taken 3 different groups of retards to the zoo in the year and a half I've known her and the first time she told me, I held back my snickering as she described how amazed the kids were by the animals. I kept hearing "woah-oh-oh, will you take us to the zoo?"
She doesn't like it much when I say something is "retarded" but I can't help it.
