Retardation Rock

After Devo's "Mongoloid" and the Ramones' "Cretin Hop", can anyone name any more songs that explicitly refer to the condition of mental retardation? (NOT songs that sound as if they were produced by sufferers of same!)

'Taking Retards to the Zoo' by the Dead Milkmen

A song title search on the word 'retard' at CDNOW.com reveals all sorts of candidates. Is this thread in worse taste than the mental illness one?

Mental illness seems largely associated with 60s psychedelia and hippies, whereas learning difficulties seem to surface mainly in punk and punk-influenced rock. This is not surprising, but it does tell you something about the respective fictionalised/romanticised images of the two classes of condition.

SOngs about retards...does that include songs about political figures?

Thank you Mike.

"Retarded," by the Afghan Whigs. However, the song seems to be more about adolescent boredom and the less-than-clinical use of the term as an insult.

Where's that "We came here to get retarded" sample that opens the X- Men album from?

"Spazz" - The Elastik Band. It's on the Nuggets box, and is breathtakingly offensive.

"Get Retarded" by Canibus - but I'm pretty sure that he's not ordering listeners to suffer from mental retardation.

actually that's just a remake of mc ez & troup's 'get retarded' (featuring a very young craig mack, oddly enough). i think the song was also remade by dre on the bulworth soundtrack. good jam.

"Van Full of Retards" and "I Snuck a Retard into a Sperm Bank," both by the lovely and talented Anal Cunt.

(and yes, they were aiming to be offensive. and they succeeded.)

I just thought I'd point out that my girlfriend just finished her master's and wants to teach 3rd grade, I think... when they're still cute, anyway. She keeps getting more and more practice in special ed classes, which she doesn't necessarily want, but she's nice and really tries with the kids, unlike the older bitch teachers she keeps replacing, so they keep sending her to new schools to "fill in" for the current special ed teacher. She works with autistic kids and stuff.

Anyway, the point I was getting to...

She's taken 3 different groups of retards to the zoo in the year and a half I've known her and the first time she told me, I held back my snickering as she described how amazed the kids were by the animals. I kept hearing "woah-oh-oh, will you take us to the zoo?"

She doesn't like it much when I say something is "retarded" but I can't help it.

Hmmm 'suckers and fuckers and stupid retards' from the Moldy Peaches 'NYC's Like a Graveyard'? Funny - I've had that line in my head all day. Along with 'Who mistook the steak for chicken/Who'm I gonna stick my dick in'.

'Mental illness seems largely associated with 60s psychedelia and hippies, whereas learning difficulties seem to surface mainly in punk and punk-influenced rock.'

Maybe it's a case of long-term effects of acid vs. long-term effects of sniffing glue?

See http://www.kidsofwidneyhigh.com/, I believe there are a couple songs about the difficulties they face being handicapped/deveopmentally disabled.
