An example would be Moby's 18 which felt like Play II but wasn't really a patch on the original.

contributions need not match the 'cynical cash-in' description I'd apply to 18

Cornelius's Sensuous felt like a sequel to Point, just taking its ideas until they were no longer enjoyable

a revisit to the Duck Rock with new sections, vocals by various hip hop legends.
surely it can't fail.
it did.
other than the original versions that are included, its pretty dreadful listen.

peeping tom as a quasi sequel to the pop stylings of faith no more, the return of the "pop mike patton" was a disaster

xp
the first batches of Wu-Tang solo lps were completely inspired: ODB's return to the 36 chambers, Tical, Liquid Swordz, Cuban Linx, Iron Man. They went shit for a while but as annoyed as I was for wasting money on shit like Bobby Digital at least they still had classy goodies to come like ODB's follow up and Supreme Clientele.

I was referring specifically to things like Tical 2000 (and Tical 0)
