"marunouchi sadistic" easily, unparalleled groove

i do love the punky rerecording of "koufukuron" though

I'm very fond of Koko De... despite the Eigo bits, it sounds great live from the different clips that I've seen, like the Expo version.

XP - Brad, do you know the band Clammbon? If you like Marunouchi Sadistic a lot, you might like them also.

MaresNest, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:02 (seven years ago)

I wouldn't want to derail, but if you can somehow let me know a mail address (my webmail associated with ILM is long dead) I can send you a mix of stuff.

there are so many great moments on this album and all the playing is fantastic, especially the bass (makes sense as her bassist Seiji Kameda did all the arrangements), it really has to be one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

there are so many great moments on it:
-her scream on Koufukuron and the contrast to the single version
-the brief flamenco guitar break on Akane Sasu, Kiro Terasaredo...
-the shift between the Homogenic-esque verse and the loud chorus on Sido to Hakuchuumu
-the synth-koto breakdowns in Tsumiki Asobi
-I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO GIVE UP ON YOU
-the bursts of bass in the Koko de Kisu Shite verse (reminds me of Radiohead's Airbag which has a similar drum pattern too)
-there aren't any particular details i want to point out about them but i love all of Tadashii Machi, Marunouchi Sadistic, and Morphine

think i'm ultimately going with Koko de Kisu Shite, the way it does the alt rock quiet verse/loud chorus thing but with those fantastic bass grooves that are kinda atypical for alt rock is so good and the melody is undeniable

Based on a couple of listens, for me this is between Tsumiki-Asobi and Onaji Yoru, obviously for different reasons (former is ecstatic energy-jam, latter is beautiful)

shouts out to "kabukicho no jou" for being a really good second single of a whole career, i feel like i overlook it a lot

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:40 (seven years ago)

really this album is wonderful to the point where it's almost a shame she improved on it so vastly on the next two lol

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:50 (seven years ago)

those first three albums are a run so great it's hard to believe really, especially when you take into account the wealth of b-sides and other releases from the period (like Ze-Chyou Syuu), and the two very good Tokyo Jihen albums that followed

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:01 (seven years ago)

hm maybe i should've voted for "keikou"

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:17 (seven years ago)

I voted for Onaji Yoru in the end. That chorus! Those violins!

The whole album's good but the second half is particularly to my taste.

I'm also listening to Shosu Strip now. My god
