Never heard of Chimo though - who are they Scott?

Live at Topanga Corral was among the first albums I ever bought, as a cutout, so I listened to that an unbelievable number of times as a kid.

And Cold Blood was among the first national touring bands I ever saw, on the State Fair "Young America" stage, whereupon I ordered Sisyphus from Record Club of America and played that a ton as well.

Yoko narrowly over Art Blakey -- Roots and Herbs is killer, but was recorded in 1961, so it doesn't feel right to pit it against 1971 records.

Very very curious which critics reviewed which records.

I know Bangs did Beefheart, Amon Duul and a couple others. Dave Marsh did Lennon/Ono, Coltrane, Kinks, Doors and about 10 others. Mike Saunders did Badfinger.

Decals, though I like a lot of these.

that Maury Muehlelson album has a very cool lyrics insert. just thought i'd point that out. not the greatest album in the world though. worth hearing, but not great.

that marbles album was basically a front for the bee gees. they wrote most of the songs on it.

the Carp album has some decent stuff on it. Gary Busey's band.

Brainbox was Jan Akkerman's old band. before the majesty that was Focus.

also, i wouldn't mind having a copy of the joy unlimited album. i never see it. didn't exactly light a fire in the u.s. not even a savage rose-level fire.

i like a lot of these obviously (i listened to both fat mattress albums last week!) but i am voting for juicy lucy because they kicked ass and nobody else will vote for them.

might as well confess that I'll be the guy voting for Chunga's Revenge, I love that record.

What do the Conception Corporation and Birth Control and Joy Unlimited sound like? Think I've heard most of the others.

Conception Corporation was a comedy troupe. One of the guys ended up playing keys in the Blues Brothers Band.

Comedy for LP, similar to, but not nearly as good as, Firesign Theater.

... although "Sunday! Sunday! US Amphetamine Speedway" has been a phrase in my subconscious for years.

Birth Control were pretty cool. German band. They made absolutely no dent over here. Epitaph and Lucifer's Friend made more of a dent here and they also didn't make much of a dent. Heck, Frumpy and Jane probably made more of a dent.

the Birth Control album was also on Prophecy in the states like the Amon Duul, so, at least Prophecy promos were getting an ear.

Joy Unlimited were a cool proggy female-led german band. their first two albums came out in the u.s. but i never see them anywhere. their other albums i would have to go to germany to find. for fans of curved air, savage rose, earth & fire, etc. i dig them. i would totally buy an affordable CD box of their albums.

it's insane to me that so many amazing albums were all released in the same month or so. i hope that when it's 2066 i'll be able to look back at may 2018 and say the thing about a bunch of cool albums i discover in the interim.

I suppose POB is the best, but Sardonicus and Share the Land are my favourite. I voted for Sardonicus, my go-to stoner album in high school.

He has a long lead review of Decals, and a round-up piece covering "foreign" records (Duul, Brainbox, Joy Unlimited, Birth Control, The Cats, The Marbles)
