Let's listen to Kadhja Bonet and discuss her soulful psychedelic sounds

New album Childqueen sounds just as good as The Visitor (2016) to my ears, both succesfully mixing genres and styles in a very convincing old-school but contemporary production. She's obviously a great musician and composer, maybe doesn't have the hooks (or the desire) to go full pop but certainly the talent.

Anyone seen her live?

Was going to start a thread. She’s pretty wonderful yet woefully ignored it seems. She apparently wrote, produced and played most everything on the new one.

feel like fans of St Vincent might like this too, has that artsy/complex/conceptual pop vibe, more understated and groovy though

I like the new album, but I'm not sure yet if I love it as much as The Visitor. "Honeycomb" and "Gramma Honey" are all time.

My brain is fried and I don't know how to speak about music anymore, but this album has been quite the comforting balm over the last several days.

Tom Moon talks about her on NPR, I hadn't heard of her before.

Kadhja Bonet grew up in a family surrounded by music — she learned to play the violin and the viola, studied music theory, but then pursued a degree in film. After graduating, she dove back into music. Her sophomore album, Childqueen shows Bonet's idiosyncratic talent.

Love this album. Great escape from all the negative drama in the zeitgeist. This will get played in the mornings, at night, and in the car.

can't stand st vincent. this is rough around the edges, otherworldly, sublime... not in the same world for me.

This is a great album. I literally have no idea what St Vincent sounds like, but if I had to reach for a comparison, it strikes me as what an American version of Broadcast might sound like.
