Black Dresses is my favorite album this year, but I think it goes in the category of things I love unconditionally that I can't imagine recommending to anyone I currently know IRL.

if you're on the right wavelength, it's basically everything. I'm slightly less enthusiastic about Girls Rituals, but the track "It's Not That Deep" hits similar highs.

So this is cool then

i like the weird MIDI pop thing they're going for here in places but the overall sound design doesn't really grab me in the same way that katie's solo work does, and they haven't really made the vocals mesh with it very well (this was a problem for me on girls rituals and black dresses albums too)

like the 'bedroom prog' tag though

It's no Flood Network and it's no WASTEISOLATION, but it's cool imo

I do suspect it'll grow on me too

When it hits the highs there are things on this one that I think might become my absolute favourites out of any of the records, but then there are patches where it just doesn't move me at all (I actually think the first track was one of these, just didn't gel for me at the start).

re: Black Dresses, it’s fascinating to me just how unique the toxicity within uber-queer fanbases is — not saying it’s more toxic than cishet fanbases (south park says hi) but rather that this type of fanbase pushes back against its creators in a unique way

I remember kind of sleeping on the last Black Dresses album out of fatigue from the sheer volume of amazing output, but my god Peaceful As Hell has been on repeat since it came out and it still feels totally fresh and full of depth.
