Do any of you all have a CD-player/alarm clock so that you may wake yourself up with your favorite "wake-up songs"? If not, could you use your imagination and think of what your favorite songs would be to wake up to?

Personally, I really like Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up" (for obvious reasons) and Blackalicious' "Make You Feel That Way", but The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun" is also amazing for wake-up time.

Nothing too chirpy. That'd put me in a bad mood right from the off.

Much as I like the Boo Radleys, 'Wake up boo' would really wind me up.

The Orb 'Majestic' ("wake up!.....wake up!.....wake up!")
Black Box 'Ride On Time' ("gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up!")
Radiohead 'Everything In Its Right Place' (so i can feel like Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky and pretend Cameron Diaz is beside me)

"move your body" by xpansions would have me up and dancing.

I mentioned this in another thread but Corrupted's Llenandose de Gusanos is perfect for me. Now, I know sludgy doom metal isn't what most people would like to wake up to and I wouldn't either. But there are about 20 minutes of piano and low-key vocals before the evil sludge comes in, which gives me a nice little buffer zone. But not too nice because if I don't get up in 20 minutes I'm going to be flying out of my bed to shut this ungodly noise off!

Bit of a shorter intro, but Sweat Loaf by the Butthole Surfers might have a similar effect.

Now there's a song that's going to set you up for the day.

Orbital - Quality Seconds

The Great American Starving Band by Candidate. Is amazing.

for some reason a few years ago i always had pablo honey as my wake up disc...the first few seconds of "you" are now painful to listen to...

robin (robin), Thursday, 14 November 2002 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i just woke up to the Rentals' "friends of p" and it worked beautifully. mm.

I, erm, have a robot-shaped alarm clock that dances (well, sways back and forth) and plays about 80-90 seconds of Kraftwerk's "The Robots."

the only songs that work for me are the ridiculously loud ones, so lately I've gone for "when good dogs do bad" by the dillinger escape plan w/ mike patton...those who've heard it will know where I'm coming from.

The first Horace Silver Trio from 1952; the whole thing is sweet, but the lead-track Horoscope is about as cool as it gets.

This one is a tie between

Warren G - "Regulate" (regulators! mount up!)

and

Sigue Sigue Sputnik - "Love Missile F-111" because it puts you in a Ferris Bueller kind of mood.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 14 November 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Ride's "Leave Them All Behind" takes about as long as it does for me to getup, pick out clothes, find my socks and head off to the shower.

Im not a fast mover in the morning. But in recent times I listen to music as I go to sleep and not when I wake up. I've gotten use tot he silence before my first cup of coffee.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 November 2002 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the chorus of Primal Scream's "Rise" on your alarm clock would set just the right tone of psychosis needed for the working day.

Tag, Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how about that 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us' song?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I have my clock radio tuned to WPGC 95.5 for rap and r&b. If they are playing a sad song when I wake up, I start to cry.
When I was living in NYC, I had the radio tuned to the Columbia station. The DJ would almost always play "Bitches Brew" at 6:30. That is some freaky music to wake up to. I would always wake up when the whole band played in unison after the first series of bass notes.
I always use the radio. If I wake up to a favorite CD, especially, for some reason, "Foxbas Alpha", then I will stay in bed and listen!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

This one works really well if you want to face the day with a I-can-do-anything kinda attitude...

Servotron's "Theme for the Inevitable Conquest of Earth" or whatever the hell it's called.

nickalicious, Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea why this popped into my head, but I can't imagine possibly having a bad day after waking up to "Relax".

Clarke B., Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i usually wake up w/ the radio tuned inbetween stations so that.

Honda (Honda), Thursday, 14 November 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I Walk With Jesus

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 14 November 2002 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

When I used a CD player to wake me up, I found R'heads "Airbag" to be the right mix of not-too-abrupt and yet-abrasive-enough to wake me without startling me.

In Windows (I know 2000 and XP can, not sure about 9x) you can use Task Manager to do this... Just create a task that will execute a playlist or mp3 and set the time and other scheduling features (only on certain days, every day, only once, etc) and you have instant alarm clock music thingie.

Stuart, Friday, 15 November 2002 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't dare set my alarm clock to radio these days (probably best not to start the day angry) but before I switched over to the dreaded beep, the last song I remember waking me gently was The Tragically Hip's Flamenco. I didn't even hit snooze that morning. Now that's saying something.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 15 November 2002 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie

JS Williams (js williams), Friday, 15 November 2002 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I like listening/dancing to stuff after I get out of the shower and start getting dressed. For a long time the choice pick was Shakedown's "At Night", but now it's BJ Caruana's "Bump".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 15 November 2002 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

VU's "Who Loves The Sun."

T. Weiss (Timmy), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...
My wake-up CD begins with "Sugar Water" by Cibo Matto and then goes into "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. It's a weird mix, but it works well to start the day on an up note.
