flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 02:18 (seven years ago)

thank you for reminding me I still need to spend some serious time w/ this album

Simon H., Tuesday, 26 June 2018 02:33 (seven years ago)

i think spottie would love this band if he hasn't heard them yet

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 12:44 (seven years ago)

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 13 July 2018 15:42 (seven years ago)

no morse code surprise this time? or would the ticking in the beginning mean something?

StanM, Friday, 13 July 2018 18:58 (seven years ago)

eight months pass...

Mesarthim has changed their profile picture on March 12th...

https://www.facebook.com/mesarthim.official/

StanM, Thursday, 21 March 2019 16:45 (six years ago)

I don't get the significance

like him hate us? Sure you are. Its in the cool aid. (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 21 March 2019 17:23 (six years ago)

they're still active + maybe there's something new on the way?

StanM, Thursday, 21 March 2019 17:57 (six years ago)

two weeks pass...

That new logo (here as well: https://mesarthim.bandcamp.com/ ) must mean something (they previous clues & the secret album were all morse code) though: there are lines missing, the number of dashes... But what?
Maybe they're telling us where to look for something? Maybe it's a release date?

GHOST CONDENSATE

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 17:08 (six years ago)

hell yes

Simon H., Wednesday, 17 April 2019 17:16 (six years ago)

second half of this, at least at work which is the worst place for paying attention to music, seemed WONDERFUL

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 17:55 (six years ago)

Jeff Treppel just now raving about it on Twitter. Clearly a sign.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:00 (six years ago)

They're one of the first four acts in Bandcamp's vinyl pressing program:

i'm pledging! hell yeah

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:32 (six years ago)

whoever they are they were very sweet and thoughtful interview subjects (through email lol)

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:33 (six years ago)

alas the Cdn shipping is bound to be brutal, doesn't seem like it's going to have much trouble hitting the goal anyway

Simon H., Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:41 (six years ago)

would get the great filter/type iii on vinyl in a heartbeat, this needs more listens

imago, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:43 (six years ago)

pledged! got the poster, too. :)

alpine static, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:10 (six years ago)

i would love to know what scott seward and/or Siegbran make of this music

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:48 (six years ago)

Yeah this new one is good stuff.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 April 2019 03:10 (six years ago)

Since lhotr.org, the original url that was hidden in the morse code at the end of The Density Parameter doesn't work anymore, I guess we can talk about it?

It sent you to this, which they seemingly uploaded in 2016 - https://lhotr.bandcamp.com/releases

And it's great! In an early Mesarthim kinda way (you immediately hear it's them but also how much they've evolved since then)

StanM, Thursday, 18 April 2019 18:20 (six years ago)

aw damn I wish brad was here for this

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:05 (five years ago)

Listening! Already sounds more...terrestrial than their usual output. Intriguing!

imago, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:08 (five years ago)

yes there are riffs that do not sound beamed in from another dimension

not sure I like it tbh

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:17 (five years ago)

yeah, it's the same, but different

StanM, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:19 (five years ago)

Nothing against these guys but I have no idea why they deserve their own thread ahead of worthier active metal bands such as [redacted].

pomenitul, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:23 (five years ago)

They're kind of sui generis?

imago, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:24 (five years ago)

xpost I didn't know you liked https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Redacted/3540391300

StanM, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:26 (five years ago)

hmm, the latest track has turned into a slightly underwhelming remix of the end of The Great Filter

imago, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:36 (five years ago)

Their forays into mid 90s symphonic trance kitsch kinda ruin the stately cosmic mood for me and their Heroes of Might Magic III synth lines are often too crude and winky to be thoroughly hYpNoTiC. If we're sticking to the same astronomical turf, I prefer Progenie Terrestre Pura.

Anyway, I usually like their stuff well enough while it's playing so I'm a graysayer more than a naysayer.

pomenitul, Thursday, 6 August 2020 13:40 (five years ago)

oooh, morse code at the end again.

StanM, Thursday, 6 August 2020 22:02 (five years ago)

.--. .-.. .- -. . - / -. .. -. . / -.. . - . -.-. - . -..

StanM, Friday, 7 August 2020 06:04 (five years ago)

I feel like they may sound different because they're using different recording software or microphones or something but the music is pretty much as great as ever imho

StanM, Sunday, 9 August 2020 17:13 (five years ago)

another one!!

StanM, Thursday, 13 August 2020 06:32 (five years ago)

they're evolving/playing with their own format a bit + some of the riffs are variations from earlier songs. I still love it though

StanM, Thursday, 13 August 2020 20:12 (five years ago)

I think I prefer this to the new full-length

this is Chapter 1 of Phase 2 according to their facebook post - was Phase 1 "showing metal fans that dance music exists" and Phase 2 is maybe the other direction?

... what are we supposed to do with the morse information this time? (it's an old Russian camera)

StanM, Saturday, 27 May 2023 09:34 (two years ago)

I love this band and the new one is just as cosmic as expected though some of the heavier parts makes its way into Deafheaven's transitional stuff, kinda.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Saturday, 27 May 2023 21:30 (two years ago)

I’ve been playing this pretty much nonstop and I absolutely love it. My favourite is ‘Arrival Pt 6’. Does anyone know what the Morse code spells out? By the way, I love the Morse code breakdown in that song!

Kodanshi, Sunday, 28 May 2023 21:15 (two years ago)

FYI for anyone wondering: it's after 58 seconds (and again a bit later in the track) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ta-lfOmDmQ

the beep beep beep morse code is KONVAS AVTOMAT, the camera used to make the first images of Earth from outer space

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konvas
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gherman_Titov
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vostok_2

but what are the guitars doing? are they playing another morse code at the same time?

StanM, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:09 (two years ago)

I think they’re doing a breakdown to the rhythm of the Morse Code itself. Note that the guitars even ‘stutter’ (through delay/programming) to keep in time with the beeps.

I absolutely love it though. Thanks for translating it, by the way.

so I'm at the first non-festival show Austere is going to do, and I'm wearing my Mesarthim shirt. I buy the two exclusive Austere shirts and it's Tim! He points at me and goes: nice shirt!

... I still don't know if they're Mesarthim and I can't go to London next weekend. Damn.

StanM, Sunday, 8 September 2024 17:42 (one year ago)

I should go ask, shouldn't I

StanM, Sunday, 8 September 2024 18:23 (one year ago)

Rather!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 September 2024 19:01 (one year ago)

my chance may have gone, it's no longer them at the merch stand

StanM, Sunday, 8 September 2024 19:22 (one year ago)

so yeah, I didn't get another chance - the show was great and the fact that he pointed out my shirt was suspicious enough :)

StanM, Sunday, 8 September 2024 22:18 (one year ago)

They did their first live show today ... we still don't know who they are, then.

StanM, Sunday, 15 September 2024 08:19 (one year ago)

yeah, I'd say that drummer is about as talented and enthusiastic as Tim Yatras from Austere :-)

StanM, Sunday, 15 September 2024 08:36 (one year ago)

no idea about the other members though

StanM, Sunday, 15 September 2024 08:44 (one year ago)

facepalm - the singer (with the beard) is Paulo Bruno from Thy Light, imho

StanM, Sunday, 15 September 2024 08:55 (one year ago)

so, in short, my bet is that Mesarthim is Paulo & Tim :-)

StanM, Sunday, 15 September 2024 08:59 (one year ago)

ok, scrap that, the drummer isn't Tim, he doesn't have a beard. Singer is still Paulo from Thy Light though

StanM, Tuesday, 17 September 2024 16:13 (one year ago)

Conclusion: they’re all clones

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 September 2024 16:31 (one year ago)
