Actor > s/t >>>>> everything else

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 22:32 (seven years ago)

^ my thoughts exactly, although I don't know which I prefer out of those two

I was a huge huge fan of the S/T when it came out but I haven't been tempted to revisit it in ages, whereas Actor is great too and has its own cool thing going on.

Gâteau Superstar (dog latin), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 22:36 (seven years ago)

going masseduction>actor>s/t=marry me>>rest.

masseduction impressed me in a way i was not expecting, both exuberant but still thorough.

Have to go w/ Actor - the only album of hers that hasn't had the curious effect of growing off me after 3 or 4 listens.

Strange mercy

I've never listened to Marry Me. is it worth my time?

Gâteau Superstar (dog latin), Thursday, 5 July 2018 08:22 (seven years ago)

I have alot of time for the SV songs on Love This Giant, less os the DB songs. That said his performance of 'I Should Watch TV' in London the other day was a lot of fun.

Gâteau Superstar (dog latin), Thursday, 5 July 2018 08:23 (seven years ago)

Marry Me is a bit jazzier than her later albums and is a bit frontloaded, but it's definitely worth a listen. All My Stars Aligned, Your Lips Are Red and Marry Me are the standouts.

strange mercy. it's been a while since i've heard actor and idk if i've ever heard marry me tho

Strange Mercy > s/t = Actor > Marry Me > Masseduction

Strange Mercy is definitely my favourite, but the self-titled and Actor are right behind it. Marry Me is nice and all, albeit sounds a bit juvenile and crafty compared to her later work. Masseduction I've warmed up to after my initial disappointment, but it still leaves me a bit cold in places -- I blame Antonoff's glossy production which sanded off her edges.

Can't remember much about Love This Giant TBH save for the fact that it had some cool brass arrangements. Perhaps it's time to give it a spin and reevaluate it.

REALLY enjoyed the Krokodil/Grot 7" she released right after Strange Mercy, was hoping she'd go in that direction more.

don't get people who like Strange Mercy. Is it just because of Cruel? Rest of it sounds absolutely horrid.

Gâteau Superstar (dog latin), Thursday, 5 July 2018 14:54 (seven years ago)

probably it's bcz it's her BEST ALBUM

he he at least it's v cohesive, almost all highlights from start to finish, best tracks are Cruel, Surgeon and Northern Lights'

what convinced me was seeing the songs live on the LTG tour w/ Byrne, esp Cheerleader leaped out

okay but Actor might also be her best

for some sad reason while I still stan for her I kinda stopped listening thoroughly on s/t and masseduction (enjoyed the singles though)

saw her in concert last week, a+

basically Johnny Fever's first answer. the S/T blew me away at the time but Masseduction lost me completely so now I'm more likely to go back to Actor

Voted STRANGE MERCY

joshywinty (josh), Friday, 31 August 2018 01:27 (six years ago)

Voted Actor but really she’s not done anything ‘bad’. Strange Mercy and the DB collaboration are the least enjoyable for me, but still good records.

very fair

niels, Saturday, 1 September 2018 08:03 (six years ago)

Vaguely surprised that Strange Mercy beat the eponymous one.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 1 September 2018 08:06 (six years ago)

it's more consistent
