I got my nipple pierced a few weeks ago, and the song playing in the background (it was done at a friend's house, by another friend who's a professional piercer) was something along the lines of "Little Red Book" by Love--I don't know the song well.

Anyways, now when my friend plays me ths song, I remember the pain of getting it pierced. I have another instance like this, too--the first time I had sex with my last boyfriend, "Alex's Song" by Blur was playing. I was just wondering if anyone else has memories interwoven with songs like this.. didn't see the topic raised elsewhere.

WHn I listen to "One Headlight " by the accursed Jacob Dylan, I think of the awful night my roomate fucked these two girls all night with that song on repaet loudly.

Funny, when I hear "One Headlight," I'm reminded of vomiting profusely in the nearest available Men's room....BECAUSE THE SONG IS ABSOLUTE SHIT!

Oh, what the hell, I'll play. When I got my first tattoo, we were watching South Park: The Movie. The process started during "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" I associate the two now. For the other tattoos, I went to a different place, because I hated the neighborhood the first one was in, Neil almost had to kick some guy's ass for me. At the new place that I go to now, I always make them play the Clash for me, since it's the only acceptable CD they have.

This was the point of this question, right? Songs mark all events. But if we're talking body modification, you need specific songs.

I got my only piercing to the sounds of Queen Latifah. Fittingly, it's always infected.

When I did my belly button, I was listening to Blur now that I think about it. No wonder it's fucking crooked. Damon, pff. When I did my ears, I had on no music at all and now I'm all sad about it. I'm going to have to do something else so I can listen to something good. We're totally going to go down to the tattoo place this weekend and get shit done while listening to the Clash. Except I probably won't because I need to get my lower back tattooed but if I do that I can't wear my corset cos it'd be all about infecting my tattoo.

The first time I heard the Clientele. It was the Fading Summer ep last August. And that was it.

This strikes me as a Josh-like answer.

Youn - very very close, I usually can't help associating all kinds of mundane things with the first times I hear records (also later listens, actually), so that in retrospect the things that were happening at the time become events.

One Sunday evening in the early 70's I was listening to Radio 1. While Elton John's "Your Song" was playing, my mother entered my room with a cup of tea she had made for me. Utterly insignificant, but for some reason I have always remembered it. In fact I also associate any cup of milky tea with this event.

And, in the same sense, "Up, Up And Away" always reminds me of Saturday mornings on Radio 2 when I was 6 years old (1986).

I ran a seamripper through my hand accidentally when I was 14, when Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was on the radio.

At a hellish loft party, I locked myself in the one enclosed room and played the Red Hot Chili Peppers' first CD over and over again.

Julian Koster (now of Neutral Milk Hotel) wrote & sang a song called "Two Dogs" for me on my 30th birthday.

I got into a pretty major car wreck while R.E.M.'s "Driver 8" was playing on the radio. I suspect that it wasn't a coincidence, even though it was the other drivers' fault.

Inexplicably, I have always associated Gemini Dream by the Moody Blues with fight scenes from the Empire Strikes Back.

Kim, Thursday, 24 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ten years pass...

That Gemini dream thing still happens.
