If the song is more than 40 years old it's granddad rock at this point.

Imagine Dragons is the clear winner, because today's dads like to stay current and keep up with the kids, good music for lacross practice.

I voted for Rocks imagining Bobby Gillespie's face should he find out his song is deservedly on this compilation.

51-56 is peak Dadrock, almost included 57 but late period Whitesnake are just a bit too flash really.

my dad has been in dad rock bands for 10+ years, they play AC/DC, ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Floyd, all the classic rock stuff, and occasionally some lame 90s grunge knock offs. nothing as lame as the Spin Doctors tho.

I have 3 kids and on road trips in our Honda Odyssey I make my kids listen to Can and Faust. My 6 year old daughter loves Amon Duul II, particularly the Yeti album.

My dad wasn't much of a rock fan, more a jazzbo, folk and classical guy, but he bought the Boston album because he heard there was a guy from MIT on it, and he thought that was hilarious. MIT guy in a rock and roll band! He ended up playing it tons and bought the follow up.

My parents are in their late 50s, early 60s. They both went to an Imagine Dragons concert a few years ago.

That being said, when I think of my dad I tend of think of Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues, and that's not on here.

Yes. When I started hearing the term dad rock Wilco was the headlining act. Dad rock was known to be that mellow adult alternative/indie sound that would often appeal to smart (dressed nicely) types because of difficult guitar playing.

I'd love to see a US version of this comp (wilco, jack white related stuff, walkmen, vampire weekend).

Wilco is not quite of “today”, most people knew about them through yankee hotel foxtrot and that record is like 20 years old.

Full disclosure: I never cared for Wilco, at all -- I thought they were dull, sub-Petty MOR rock w/pretensions -- until their last two albums, which I think are terrific... and which HAPPEN to have been released in the time since I became a dad. So that seals it! They're dad rock, and I like 'em (...but still not their earlier stuff).

Ha, I'll stan for Nels Cline all day long but I honestly had no idea that Wilco has released four albums since Sky Blue Sky.

for a very long time, I have mulled over posting a TS: WFUV vs WFMU here, yet of course it would be no goddamn contest whatsoever on ILM. Notwithstanding sirius or Hot 97, that's what i listen to in the car. FUV is an excellent indicator of dad/ mom rock. It really is NO RAP OR HARD STUFF. once you come to terms with that, you hear Brandi Carlslie, The Record Company (truly hideously boring), and a constellation of very very correct triple A/neo classic rock that is deeply unfashionable, as well as the front rank of indie rock like Spoon, Arcade Fire and LCD and the most boring version of of the classic rock canon you can imagine …really anything that nice conscientious white people are supposed to like…BUT, aren't nice conscientious white folk supposed to listen to Kendrick and SZA? Maybe, but that's rap and R&B and that would freak out the listeners, who think that's all commercial crap…FUV plays the SHIT out of the Dap-Tone universe…black music is apparently okay when it is no longer innovating…I truly would be interested if any other ILMer in the NY area has anything to say about WFUV, which is absolutely indistinguishable from Sirius's Spectrum…
