Wait a minute, *will* have? If this was 1996, heck, 1994, then this question would be timely, surely. As it is, right now it's more like what are the further developments going to be.

well i don't know about you guys, but i just tried that 'napster' everyone's been talking about for the past few weeks and it was awful. i couldn't find any of the major label songs i wanted.

That's because Napster have agreed to blocked anything the major labels want them to. www.audiogalaxy.com is far better these days (and, because you can lose your connection and then start your download again where you left off, always a more practical option for someone like myself with a 56k modem).

perhaps i should have added a delightful winking smiley at the end of my post to indicate that i was being humourously less- than-truthful. oh well, no harm done.

I kind of knew you were, but just wanted to make sure.

I know its a bit late, but I feel we stand on the verge of a new era of creative expresion in music due to a change in the medium. I mean all the major labels are set this summer to relsease new stupid "subscription service" for their artists to be streamed and downloaded. HOw long til cds are considered quaint and bluky? DO you guys think musicians can live off not selling cds? I dunno. I guess they make their living wage playing live anyways.

Stop Press

Vivendi Universal buys MP3.com By Richard Jolley, London, Revolution UK Online, May 21, 2001 Revolution

How will this change things?

DJ Martian, Tuesday, 22 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What? I don't know. Does anyone ever listen to anything on MP3.com?

Nick, Tuesday, 22 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NO , no one listens to mp3.com. But they have designs on offering signed artitst they own too.

Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 22 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MP3.com gets a shockingly large amount of traffic - about 30% of peak Napster, which for an entertainment site is big. My guess is that it's people suckered by the domain name, mostly.

WHy would anyone bother paying when the gnutella net is getting stronger every day? Its over for that idea, file sharing is here to stay.

Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 22 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Napster and other p2p software is next to useless on anything below a cable modem IMHO.
