It's always amazed me how much "My Maria" already sounded like a Brooks & Dunn song that of course they had to cover it.

Nah, it's the correct version of "My Maria".

If I remember my liner notes right, "Shambala" was pitched to 3DN by a song plugger, who turned around after they agreed to cut the song and pitched it to Stevenson. the 3DN camp caught wind of this, rushed into the studio to record and mix the song, with acetates being helicoptered out to specific radio stations immediately afterwards.

The El Chicano song is hawt, which also reminds me that "Sauvecito" by Malo really should have been on one of these comps.

These polls have had me doing some "where are they now" research. Stevenson died undergoing heart valve surgery in 1988 at the age of 38.

These comps are always gonna be hit and miss, but there is some truly unlistenable shit on this one. "The Playground in My Mind" and "Funny Face" are like being force-fed syrup through your nostrils.

Before the hysteria begins: I didn't vote for it, but I don't hate "Dueling Banjos" or anything. In the context of the film, it's pretty great. As a radio hit...I can't imagine what it would be like to to hear "Dueling Banjos" over a car radio.
