[Img]https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zappa_Bongo_Fury.jpg[\img]I have never really been a fan of Frank Zappa (though I have a soft spot for jazz). In my youth there was "Bobby Brown" on the radio all the time. I didn't understand what it was about but I hated the music. We also had to listen to some early long piece by Zappa & the Mother's of Inventions in our music class. Captain Beefheart seemed to be more up my alley. I quite liked "Shiny Beast" and also flirted with "Lick My Decals off, Baby". His delta blues approach I really liked. On "Bongo Fury" these two geniuses meet and I think it works very well. The music is spot on, intense and free flowing. If I had one album to choose from by Zappa and/or Beefheart on the island I'd go for this one.

Back when I moved to Austin in '94 most of the weirdos I hung out with kept a copy of this album as a point of civic pride. I'm more of a Beefheart fan, and I think all my other Zappa albums are from the 60s. But yeah, great party album.

It’s hard not to quote from Debra Kadabra from time to time.
