Odd references to songs in unexpected places

Half watching Endeavour (i.e. Young Morse) they seem to be discussing someone called Ducasse and his collection of death masks.

Endeavour just asked someone "Do the du (casse) death masks......?" and I missed the rest of the uestion as I was having an A Certain Ratio moment!

Not a song reference, but in the episode of King of The Hill where Peggy became an outsider artist, her dealer was named "Jazz Coleman", which I assume was a nod to Gaz Coleman of Killing Joke.

The TV show 24 had a bad guy firm named McLennen-Forster. I remember reading an interview where the producer said he was a Go-Betweens fan.

Again not a song, but in the hospital based sitcom, "Only When I Laugh", James Bolam's character Roy Figgis either had a pet greyhound called Throbbing Gristle or put a bet on a greyhound called Throbbing Gristle, can't remember which.

i don't know about songs either but most of the murderers in season 2 of "homicide: life on the street" were named after grunge musicians - except the one in "bop gun" who called himself "kidd funkadelic".

Yesterday, I went in for a minor outpatient surgery — as I was wheeled in, the doctors, nurses, etc. were loudly playing pop music over a PA in the operating room. So the last thing I heard before going under the anesthesia was Camila Cabello’s “Never Be the Same”...

(I realized it’s pretty funnier if I reveal that the surgery was a vasect0my)

my husband went for heart surgery and while we were in the waiting room the song on the radio literally had the lyrics 'i will fix your heart'

i was reading the novelisation of "the day of the doctor" and there's a scene where the doctor is taking a bath with river song, with his pants on. that's a fairly random prince reference (i mean i don't think that's a thing people do outside prince songs)

Stephen Colbert's Late Show makes a lot of random references to classic prog rock. I remember they did an opening sketch that was about the various phases of King Crimson.

My kid was watching Storybots on Netflix and an animated cow rapped the line “moo kids / get me some hay” ala Ludacris in “Move Bitch”

I still think about an episode of Australian soap opera Neighbours from like 15 years ago where it's casually mentioned that one of the characters (Sky) is a Mogwai fan.

i'm listening to minor cancon synthpop band doing "sister radio" and they just threw in a reference to soft machine. this is like when the rheostatics put a reference to slapp happy's "a worm is at work" in one of their songs. is it just a canadian thing?
